In for a Penny is a spin-off of a segment originally seen in Saturday Night Takeaway, and is it any good? It's... okay in a way. Sort of.
The premise is that Stephen Mulhern is somewhere in the UK, and he's wanting to surprise anybody into playing one of his random games. These range from guessing the amount of fuel in a car, to finding a bucket with Confetti in it, to reversing in a car park spot without touching the lines. These are quite fun and very random as well. The final game where you need a penny makes members of the public do very... random... things, such as uh... dressing up as a penguin and eating a whole ice lolly in a minute, with the final game always involving Stephen stopping a timer at the correct number of seconds, and if someone does just that, they win £1,000.
Now, for the good points, the games are fun and sorta original, but what don't I like about this show? It's not really meant for people who don't like Stephen's humour. He's out the water, and utterly crazy. He talks NON-STOP like you want him to shut up at least once, but he never does. There are sound effects all over the place, random silliness and surrealness, and pop-culture references. There is so much light-hearted humour that it would make a children's show blush, this is the "family game show" that could beat all family game shows in this style. I quoted it as such as because you may hear the occasional "H**l" or "D**n" uttered by Stephen and/or a randomer, and yes, that does happen!
Overall, this show is... not meant for me. My random humour is nothing like Stephen's, and surely it's only meant for a specific type of audience. If you like him, you'll enjoy this show, but if not, watch something else.

Really??? What has happened to UK prime time Saturday night television!
What a hilarious show. Stephen Mulhern has brought laughs and giggles back to mainstream TV. I love celebrities but taking over Family Fortunes etc.. ruined it for me. It's ok for a special but seems fake when they're on every episode. The general public are so much more entertaining. I know, I'm one of them. But Stephen is definitely the best entertainer on TV at the moment. Last years Sunderland, "Get your skates on" had me in tears laughing. He has that slapstick briliance and riskay banter that makes the show so funny. I even carry a penny in my purse, just in case. I cannot wait for the next series.
Don't know who came up with this show. Cheap TV at its worst. I have to give it 2 out of 10, because there are actually worse shows. Sat through about 10 mins before I turned it off.
