"The New Abolitionists" is devastatingly powerful. Eye opening. Intense. So many things I didn't know about sex trafficking that Christina Zorich and all those involved help bring to light. This is definitely no longer just an isolated issue. This is a human rights issue. What an impactful documentary. Check it out, rate it, share it. Help spread awareness. Very well-researched. They talk about the historical context and events that contributed to this growing issue. They also meet with organizations that are on the front lines in working to help rehabilitate the victims and introduce them to a new life. Amazing and heartbreaking.
I have massive respect for Christina Zorich, all of the filmmakers, and all of the people who allowed their stories to be captured in this beautiful and moving film. It is impactful. It is informative. It is inspiring. As mentioned in the film, it is human nature to turn away from trauma. We don't want to see it. It is easy to want to ignore it. But the first step to change is knowledge that the problem exists. There are amazing people in this world doing the hard work and it is so important to share their message and encourage others to be a part of the solution. I was also surprised to learn the history of how this came to be and kudos to the filmmakers for sharing it without playing the blame game. It is a complex history and was shared with compassion.
Christina Zorich has delved into the atrocity of human sex trafficking by exploring the causes and examining the situations that put the victims at risk for exploitation. I came away understanding more about this global problem. The interviews with the anti-traffickers and those that have been rescued are deeply moving and insightful. I am inspired to see them working to help these women and children rebuild their lives, their sense of self worth and their sense of purpose. The ministries that provide them with food, shelter and safety have my greatest respect. They are dedicated to the rescue of those that have been lured, kidnapped and trapped, and the fight continues. It is beautifully shot, to show us the underbelly of the beast, yet with care to preserve human dignity. Zorich has made a brilliant film and I applaud and support her commitment to this cause.

I happened upon this documentary via the On Demand channel. I'm relieved that there are people in this world who felt that this issue was important enough to make into a documentary.
It's staggering how few people know about sex trafficking, how prevalent it is and that it often times involves children. Especially in today's world, where information is so easily exchanged through the advancement of technology. Yet ironically it's technology that helps facilitate this crime.
My hope is that this film will be a watershed moment. That it will spark a movement by introducing people to this dark reality that's hidden right under our noses.
It is a must-watch!
