I went from being fine to tearing up in 5 seconds and I am 19 year old man. HOW???
Lazy filler episode. Get to the point. Already done enough backstory, just dragging this out for no reason, other than not having enough content to fill out episodes.
Chidi is undoubtedly my favorite character in The Good Place, mostly due to his complexity. He is defined by his absence of decisiveness, yes, but his character is much deeper than that. For me, he has been the most fun to watch because I love seeing him discuss ethics and see how he responds in certain situations (like the trolley episode, where he has to actually make the decisions, or the bad place episode, where he has to lie). That's why, during Season 4, I could really tell that there was a hole in the show where Chidi used to be. Yes, he was there and all, but it was pretty much Season 1 Chidi without the added intricacy of the character. This episode neither brings back old Chidi and does something cool with him, nor does it stay with Season 1 Chidi. Instead, it goes into depth about his life before the show and throughout the show that wasn't previously shown. It presents what The Good Place as a show would be if it was just about Chidi... and honestly, I love it. There is just so much meat there to the character that it felt like the quickest 20 minutes of television. I was constantly engaged. Chidi might be one of the best written characters in any TV show, ever, and definitely the best on The Good Place. 10/10, I love it!
Felt like those clipshow episodes. I did not enjoy it one bit, it was very boring. I love Chidy, one of my favorite characters, but not strong enough to have an entire episode for himself.
Probably one of my favorite episodes from the Good Place and a great character study.
The Good Place seems simple, but to me, it is hugely philosophical and thought provoking.
Thank you for this episode.

- TriviaNoel Arthur, who plays Chidi's father, Emeka, is only 3 years older than William Jackson Harper. This is unremarkable, because several of the scenes between Chidi and his father are set earlier in Chidi's life, with Chidi being portrayed by baby or child actors instead of by Harper.
