Beautifully written! The storyline is unique and the actors do it justice. I was afraid this would be a campy comic book series. I'm going to watch the entire series and hopefully I can leave a rating that's better than the one star that someone left!

This show is breathtaking, the previous episode to this one was superb, going from an unknown premise of what would happen to a dark twist, but this episode had me in tears, there is a certain part in this episode that actually goes there, no holds barred, very raw and viceral which should shake every human on earth, not just parents...I never thought a tv show would do this, its done in such a beautiful way, that even the most hardened person should shed a tear.
Kudos to the team, just kudos.

This was one of my favourite stories from the original series, one that showed a bit of humanity from Dream of the Endless.
So I was very happy to see it as part of this series.
And its been brilliantly re-told here, it could be viewed as a bit sedate in comparison to the previous episode but still marvellously told and it doesn't feel ploddy.

In this quieter installment, "The Sandman" takes a much needed break in order to explore the lasting ramifications of the previous 5 episodes & in doing so, provides the story with a brilliant opportunity to flesh out the protagonist's personality / history - showing what the emotional consequences were of his seemingly unending isolation.
Hence, we as an audience are gifted with the time to see Morpheus' vulnerability - which he so often feels the need to hide from others - & witness how that perpetual loneliness has affected him, over the years. It's therefore not at all surprising to learn that he's struggling to readapt to what his old life once was - after being held captive for more than a century - but in reconnecting with those who matter to him, he's able to re-establish his identity, reminding himself of who he is & what his purpose may be - & in watching him actively partake in deciding the future he wants for himself & who he chooses to be in this poignant tale, his character is developed beautifully (in an organic way), ensuring that however the narrative progresses, the people featured within it also avoid stagnation.

I just can't praise this episode enough. In this day and age, with all our negativity and divisiveness, hatred and hostility, I'm often left with the sense that we are doomed to self-destruction. The stories of this episode are about hope, connection, and the value of humans - that maybe we are redeemable as a species - that there maybe is enough there for the universe to appreciate.
Just loved this episode so much.

- TriviaIn the original comics, the second soul Death visits is a struggling standup comedian who does a routine about Batman (who is, of course, a real person in the universe of the comics). This has been replaced with Sam, the swimmer.
- ErroresIn the 1389 tavern three men are seen with clay pipes, including Geoffrey Chaucer and the man sitting opposite Hob. None are actually smoking although Hob's companion lights his pipe with a taper. *This is 160 years before tobacco was introduced into Europe*. Curiously there is no sign of any tobacco use in the White Horse of later centuries until 1889 when Robert has a cigar and ashtray. The cigar remains unlit. Finally, in 1989 there are cigarettes and smoke. But no one is actually seen smoking.

Hob Gadling: [smiles] You're late.
Dream: [smiles back] It seems I owe you an apology. I've always heard it impolite to keep one's friends waiting.
