Thank you for making this wonderful move Momina Duraid Productions and Mohammad Ehtasham uddin, the director. Mahira Khan has never looked better. She looks like a vision and dances like a dream. This will be a game changer movie for her. The chemistry of Noori(Mahira Khan) and Sameer Khan(Bilal Ashraf) is out the roof. Their characters are so in sync and effortlessly blended together. Ali Kazmi is great as always playing Shaan. Azan Sami khan, the music and screen play prodigy- hats off. "Inn Dinoun" and "Be Karan" are my jam these days. Nadeem Baig the legend brings such a heart warming character to life. So good to see Marina Khan in a lovely cameo after eons. Javaid Sheikh and Asma Noor Abbas at their absolute best. I really enjoyed "Chutki's" character, her expressions are on point.
Not a big fan of "Dharak Bharak!" but the rest are on my playlist. Good luck team Super Star!
So here's my review. First let's discuss story. The first half of the movie was extremely good. It was filled with humor and many moments between Mahira and Bilal. The climax scene was also very good. The storyline drags in the second half. But still it was watchable. I think that there was something missing in the second half. However, the dialogues in the second half were amazing. But still there was something missing like there should be a suspense that now they will meet. They fall in love, breakup and then patch up. It was looking very simple. They could've added some intense scene to make the story intense. Now come to music, the music of the movie was very good but the cinematography, music and choreography of song dharak bharak was very bad as compared to bekaraan ishq which is done with extreme perfection. That qawaali song was very good. Now come to acting. As per acting it was totally Mahira's movie and she mailed each and every single second. Her acting was THE BEST thing in the movie. The change from a simple ordinary girl to a superstar was extremely good. Moreover, her wardrobe, her makeup was perfect. This movie proves that why she's the superstar of Pakistan. Now coming to Bilal ashraf, he was very good. Considering the fact that he's a newbie atm his acting was very good. We can connect with his character. There were some scenes where he lagged but overall his performance was good. Now for NADEEM BAIG I must say hands down. I don't need to write anything about his acting. Perfection. For alizey shah I must say that you're very beautiful and you can be a next big thing if you work hard on your acting skills. But still in her little space she made us laugh. Asma Abbas,Javed sheikh and the one playing Bilal mother's role they're senior actors and they were very good. Now coming to direction, ehtisham ud din, director of udaari, his direction was very good in the first half of the movie but drags a bit in the second half. But it was good. Cinematography was also average that sethi hawali was very beautiful and that song of Atif was shot perfectly. Overall I'm going with 7/10 rating. It's a good movie. Go and watch it. You'll sure have a good time watching the first half. Although second half is also watchable. Go ahead guys.
The reason why I hated the Bollywood movies is because of the songs thrown in the middle of the movies. It ruins the storyline, and think about it, does that ever happen in real life? Out of blue, a bunch of idiots start dancing? Like why?! Why would you ever put that into a movie?! Secondly, a hero, goes around and start fighting with everyone. Or sometimes, one guy fighting 10 people at once. Like seriously, why can't you be more realistic? And I am amazed that people like that kind of nonsense. Its just shameful to see Pakistani media tries to copy bollywood, which is the worst industry in the world. Better to have no film industry than a worst one.
Superstar has all the trappings of a good film. A potential storyline, a skillful director, A Superstar headlining the film and an amazing soundtrack.. However the film utilizes all of these elements in places and comes the 2nd half, the charm is lost to a rushed ending without much coherence.
Superstar could easily have been the film of the year. However it fails to rise above. The screenplay ruins a potential story in the 2nd half and character motivations are left unexplained. Little time is used on the development than a few unnecessary scenes.
The direction of the film is just adequate. Despite a few creative blocking choices by Ehteshammudin, the rest is handled with ignorance leaving one in doubt whether this was the same director who directed the masterpiece Sadqay Tumharay and the gritty Udaari.
The screenplay sets the story in quite majesty, however after a major plot twist, it never picks itself up. One of the major blunders done was the lack of scenes showing Noor's struggle and Sameer Khan's character which is left mostly in grey. After that a scene here and there, Mahira showing her acting chops, Bilal struggling to deliver, a death scene, An effortless and nostalgic Nadeem Baig and boom; an anticlimactic end, trying to make up for what cannot be redeemed.
However it is not easy to ignore the film's strengths. Thebiggest being Mahira Khan. Like the rest of her films post-Raees, Mahira too is the major draw and saving grace of the film. While given the margin to perform, in just a two minute scene, she leaves you in awe of how much versatile she is i-e the theater sequence. The rest is also handled in subtlety. Despite a few things not visually shown, Khan makes her character relatable and delivers an authentic and strong performance. However she still has to give a career best. Nadeem Baig definitely added grace to the film. The soundtrack was amazing and so was the background score, probably one of the bests from the recent Pakistani films.
Superstar has a well thought out story which the director failed to visually express in all its glory also due to a shoddy screenplay. Had the treatment been better, it would have been the film of the year

Only Mahira Khan was the star performer. Screenplay was very pathetic and slow. Only songs or cinematography can't make film hit. Worse job by the director. It was looking like a Hindi remake. Two points Oly for Mahira.
