Robert Eggers is a visionary.
"The Northman" was a powerful experience for me in theaters at the time. I remember the chills I felt during the Valkyrie scene or the berserker ritual scene. I remember feeling the sophisticated atmosphere of an elevated film, and it was my first time seeing a great Viking film in theaters. Rewatching it at home now, I realize that Robert Eggers' work was truly incredible: the spectacular direction that often reminds me of Kubrick's, the beautiful cinematography that captures the atmosphere of Scandinavia, and of course, the script that offers a profound reflection on revenge. Furthermore, the performances are also spectacular; Anya Taylor-Joy is simply enchanting, and Alexander Skarsgård is also spectacular. For those who are a fan of Viking stories or simply grew up watching the "Vikings" series, like me, they certainly miss great Viking works in cinema, and Robert Eggers offered a wonderful gift for those who needed a great Viking film in theaters.
