As others have said plot holes like a sieve. It must be the most unrealistic of all unrealistic cop shows in TV. I lost count of the number of times that I laughed out loud.
Laughable, and obvious who the 'crooks' were.
Slow. Even the so cool dramatic moments worth incredibly cliched.
Poor ending to a series that had some beautiful scenery and previously ok story lines.
I felt sorry for the actors. They were no doubt trying their best but it is impossible to to do a good job with a script and a storyline like that.
They could also have made a decent story about the oil industry and its links to to climate change but sadly that opportunity was competition missed.

I quote Edward Lear, because this series, with its beautiful shots of the Shetland coastline, was indeed way out at sea, but in a sieve, absolutely all at sea, trying to somehow present a plot with even more holes in it than that kitchen device.
I actually lost count of the times I thought "surely not!" and "this is way too silly!"
And so we finally got to reach the very end of this rambling series, with as many scattered corpses as Midsomer. Absolutely everything appears to be predicated upon a whole swathe of utterly random and grossly unlikely coincidences, and all these improbabilities easily morphing into impossibilities. I think I need to list them one by one under 'goofs', but only if I can be bothered. I don't think I can.
We have very much enjoyed 'Shetland' in the past, but this, which looks like it will be the final series, just went way too far in the 'suspend disbelief' stakes.
The acting from the central characters was as good as ever, but it must have been very hard for them trying to work with this disaster zone of a plot.
Good acting, crap plot, makes 6/10, and that's for the whole series.

I am going to make my comments about the series as a whole, not just series 7, as the arc of this series has been, to my mind, excellent. I shall miss this show very much.
Yes, the plot in series 7 was disjointed and it may not have been the best in the series, but the acting and the lead characters are just so well scripted and acted that i can over look much of this. I especially enjoyed Perez and 'Tosh', whom I really hope to see in future productions.
This is coupled with the setting in a place that perhaps few people have actually visited yet is so beautiful and haunting - coupled with such an excellent score.
Many seem to have thought this episode was less than great, but I have to disagree as it certainly held my attention and I found it difficult to 'solve' the murders ahead of time. So few clues! Yet the topic was one of current concern, and reflected the views of many, particularly young, people who are truly concerned with the future and the environment, even if they tend towards impractical solutions at times. While so may of us are just so complacent about the damage we are all doing to the planet and the high costs which will result in the future.
A truly great series!

Looks like this is the last of the Shetland series. I loved every season of it and all the main characters in it, especially Perez. Douglas Henshall plays it to perfection and can't find any fault in his portrayal of a seasoned police officer who has his personal struggles, but does not let those affect his performance.
I hope to see all of these actors in something new.
I agree with some of the reviewers that this one had lots of plot holes, but nothing that you can't ignore for the overall quality of the production, story and scenery, yes that too.
Hope they come up with something similar based in one of these beautiful places in Scotland.
