Das Verlangen der Maria D.

A beautiful love film about loneliness and obsession. It's well-shot and the music is nice as usual with Dora's stuff. It's got the great writing and dialogue one expects. The main actress is very beautiful and plays the film nicely. Sadly she is now gone. R. I. P. The one downside is a somewhat weird performance by the guy Marco since he appears not to serve much of a purpose up until the end, but it's not damaging to the film at all and leads to a great finale Dora style. So essentially it's Dora if he were Buttgereit and obviously you cannot go wrong there if you enjoy underground extremes films.

'Dead Centre of Desire' has been widely interpreted and various reviewers have alluded to Maria D being a play on the Marian Dora (and variations thereof) nom du plume. This might be taking things a bit too far as Dora tends to focus on a psychological aspect / defect of the human "animal". Unlike Melancholia der Engel and in keeping with most of his films neither 'Dead Centre of Desire' nor 'Blight of Humanity' presents themselves as complex cinematic works. The films are in esse someone holding up a camera (well someone who really knows how to get exceptional angles out of an SLR or mobile phone) to a scenario. Time is not wasted on creating a backstory or developing complex characters. The focus is on a scenario which will confront more than entertain. ''Dead Centre of Desire' does have a very distinct atmosphere and a more, dare I say, complex storyline than 'Blight of Humanity'. Dora wrote basic accompanying music which works well with the pace of 'Dead Centre'. The inside ('Dead Centre') vs Outside ('Blight') juxta positioning of the films is very interesting, and the detailed cinematography associated therewith rather beautiful. The raw violent third acts are also shared, but obviously the "human" condition which plays out, plays out consequently to different mental conditions. The films are true underground cinema, true Dora and as such not intended for all audiences.

Marian Dora focuses on a woman's definition of her love moving forward and her own inner experience in life, and we move towards the woman's moving forward into her inner experience.

Does love always lead us to true inner experiences? Can love be held on even if it destroys us or makes us disappear? Is it possible to get completely lost in love? Is the lust of getting lost and the peak of defining oneself and reaching one's inner experience, physically exploring this and moving forward sufficient?

Our film is a progression of this in extreme scenes and there are scenes similar to Melancholie Der Engel, this time our film does not go into many topics and narrate all the events of life as in Melancholie Der Engel, in this film we see a point where all the events of life are defined through love. A love that exceeds and enters into death and disappears in death, a limit experience that goes beyond the needs, accompanies us. Our character, Marian Dora, reflects her absolute surrender and not letting go of this limit experience very well. Marian Dora did not give up on including natural scenes in this movie and created the atmosphere again. She was a beautiful woman and she perfectly adapted to the role, and it was perfect for the artistic work.

I know this is not gonna please a lot of the fans of Marian Dora because this movie is the exact opposite of what I believe most of his fans come to see his films. Sure his trademarks are here like real human feces and violence. But man is it toned the hell down for more of an art house romance story of a necrophiliac. And in a way it's quite beautiful. In the most disgusting way possible ofcourse. But in saying that watching this even as boring as it kinda is it's not a chore. Yet it's also not an entertaining movie. It's well done enough and visually pleasing enough to watch. This is by far Marian Dora's most easily accessible film to date. I could see a lot of art house film fans enjoying this as it is more attuned to their sensibilities than the horror community. As it is I thought it was good for a spin but once was more than enough for me.
