Superstição e Futebol

Soccer players and some sports fan all have some form of superstition they follow in order for their team to win a match or conquer a championship. It can go from religion from the church to macumba, or luck objects and luck rituals, and those are all explored with some degree of detail in "Superstição e Futebol" ("Superstition and Soccer"). It's a fine piece on those topics and there's even legendary player Pelé sharing his views on that, telling he believes that superstition acts aren't all that important (at the time he actually made his 1000th goal) and barely he knew about how superstition were still important then and even now - with a simple research and observation one can find the many rituals made by players around the world and in other sports besides soccer.

It's all part of the excitment, sometimes works, other times doesn't, sometimes it's funny. Here, the majority of what was presented were the religious rites, kisses on saint images or moments in church and/or spaces from African religions. I don't see much importance or believe much in superstition or lucky objects but it can't be denied the religion importance to many players are out there, most of them who raise their hands and praise God after scoring a goal, it's a current trend. As for the film, it was a curious piece from its era and quite informative, nothing more since it doesn't aspire to greater things neither interviews other players neither die hard fans. Their opinions were needed here. 7/10.
