It was great, until we got to the politically correct part of the show

God save us all from a liberal American.

While a great deal of the show was great, hearing the thoughts and opinions of scholars who have studied the Ingalls and Wilder families extensively, they lost me at the end.

Like all true liberals, let's not take the book and its contents at face value, using the context of the times to better understand the book and the woman. No, no, no! We have to have it parsed to death, declaring Laura Ingalls Wilder, and anyone who lived in that time horrible, racist person.

There are actually people who wish to sanitize the Little House books until there's nothing left but a couple paragraphs, to be sure. Why do people feel the need to remove all traces of the history of this country?

Instead of disparaging someone who brought a great deal of joy to a generation, awakening in children around the world a strong desire to read, how about we use the books as a teaching tool? How about discussions about how far we've come as a people?

When the documentary got to the point of people saying they wanted whole swaths of the book removed, they lost me. It's okay for "artists" to hang a picture of a cross sitting in a jar of urine and the world embraces the "artist." But let's allow a writer, who's been long dead, to be vilified for something she thought as a child and probably didn't believe as an adult.

God save us from a liberal American. They won't be happy until every single person in the world thinks exactly the same as everyone else.

I don't recommend this documentary. It really became a propaganda tool for progressives.

    Needed to keep it focused

Needed to keep it focused. Easy to Monday morning QB. In 50 years - what will be rewritten of today's art, music and literature?

    Too Overly Critical

Very informative documentary about Laura's life and her books that she wrote It's okay for what it is BUT I felt like most of the people talking about Laura were too critical of the things she left out of her books As Laura herself put it: "I wrote the truth but not all of the truth" I mean I don't think she would have been a successful children's writer if she wrote about hard times like her baby brother dying or living in poverty I'm pretty confident that I certainly wouldn't want to read about that as a kid It would have turned me off to reading her books and I can't imagine very many parents would want their kids to read that either I don't know watch it if you're interested in learning about the truth of her life But I don't think it paints a very flattering picture of the woman she really was or was not It feels more they're pushing their own personal agendas and beliefs.

Why do I care about the commentator's opinions on FDR???

This whole thing was filled with self-important 21st century people sitting in judgement of 19th century people and events without taking the intervening 150 years into account and it REALLY annoyed me! I love the Little House books and wanted to learn more about Laura Ingalls Wilder, but along with that, I got a whole lot of unwanted crap from a bunch of supposed experts who are probably the same people who petitioned to have Wilder's name removed from the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children's Book Award. They keep going on about how inaccurate the books are, but seem to be completely unaware of what the word "fiction" means. They could have cut out most of their moralizing and stupid comments and the show would have been very enjoyable. Some people need to learn to recognize the differences between what is worth getting all bent out of shape over and what is something to learn from and move on from. If a little girl being fascinated by the dark eyes of a baby hurts you for 50 years, you really need to move on and find something more important to get worked up about! Whoever wrote this obviously hasn't learned that lesson and I wish they would learn that before they make any more documentaries.
