For Myself

In this second episode of "Jujutsi Kasen", Yuuji is taken to a special school where "sorcerers" are taught magic. He is told by the stern, abbot-like principal that he can either be executed right away, or search for the rest of Sukuna's twenty fingers and ingest them all before execution. Of course he chooses the latter option, apparently resolving to find some way to avoid being killed in the process, though I'm not sure if that was explained. Seemingly in the middle of the conversation a huge green panda-looking thing attacks Yuuji and he fights it off. I didn't understand that bit.

It seems like this second episode has thankfully scaled back on the comedic touches. I knew this show featured a school for magic users, but I was expecting an anime Hogwarts. Instead it's more like a monastery. The episode ends with a tease of an introduction of a new female character, and I was hoping it would be the bespectacled little firebrand we saw in the first episode, but it's somebody else. Maybe they'll be good too.

This time the show has an end credits sequence featuring sparsely animated footage of the characters dancing around to music that sounds like it was recorded in the '90s by a Japanese boy band. It even has a faux-rap introduction and saxophones. That seems totally out of place from the show it is, and also the show I was hoping it would be, ie. Something "dark and mature". I've resolved to at least watch the first twelve episodes.

Is it silly like this because it's shonen? "Death Note" was shonen and it wasn't silly. I'll press on.
