Cream is an absolute mess. What were they going for? So terribly made it's funny? We're so incompetent that you'll laugh? The quality of filmmaking here is so shockingly poor, it makes Birdemic look like a masterpiece.
It's legitimately one of the most puzzling videos I've ever seen. I'm not sure anyone could ever watch this and say, "wow, that was funny." This is just straight up not funny. The only reason you'd laugh is in astonishment that something so banal could be presented as entertainment. The jokes are flat. The scenes have no energy. Flatline. DOA.
If you can see through the passé and heavy Grindhouse filters, you can see the bones of something visually interesting. It has decent cinematography, but it's ruined by lazy filmmaking, inconsistent editing, rough sound, and cheap looking filters. However, the two leads have a funny dynamic together, and if there's anything decent about the video, it's their performances. Too bad their talent is wasted in Cream.
This video is not for me, you, or anyone else on this planet for that matter. I'm not sure who it's meant to appeal to or who we're exactly meant to sympathize with here. People with malicious intentions who jack off into food? Or the oblivious roommate who eats the food, is portrayed as a buffoon, and deserving of this disgusting retaliation? I guess I don't get it. The director, for whom this is a true story in real life, with him as the malicious jacker and his ex-roommate Tanuj Bhramar as the receiver, seems to have no clear intention here.
You will watch Cream and be dumbstruck, almost in awe, that a director could be so confident about their skills in comedy, but be so absolutely self-UN-aware to this fact; we're laughing at you, not with you. Nothing in this film shows skill or precision. Not in any sort of intentional way. The worst kind of example of "we'll fix it in post."
It simply seems like the director had no vision whatsoever, and to be completely frank, I don't even understand why he would have any interest in being a filmmaker. From the small amount of films he's made, I've never seen anything insightful or interesting or provocative or anything even remotely funny from him. Why is this medium something he is interested in? DOES he have anything interesting or provocative or funny to say? Not yet I guess. I'm looking forward to seeing any sort of progression in his next film if he ever makes one, but I wont hold my breath.
