Promising start, however, by episode 4, the series left me uninterested in what's to come - maybe because I don't enjoy corniness and cringe all that much. Aside: Anyone else really disliking the heavy-handed Peter Pan references? To be fair, I didn't like anything in the Alien franchise after "Aliens", but I was excited and really hopeful for this series. Alas, it's a 'meh' rating at best (IMO).
Most of the characters are dumb just like a typical horror movie they make dumb decisions in order to create suspense and drama.
The plot is dumb. A bunch of soldiers go on search and rescue. They take one medic and no real search and rescue gear. They take their pulse rifles though and head into a giant skyscraper that was hit by a giant spaceship. Imagine if police and firefighters put down any and all rescue gear and grabbed automatic rifles to rush into the twin towers during 9/11. That's what you have here. A very dumb plot. A better plot would have been if their boss, a trillionaire owner of arrival corporation to the corporation that owns the ship, had ordered them to go into the ship to secure it. See I fixed part of their terrible plot in just a minute. What happened to writers? They used to be able to tell such good stories and now they're just so dumb.
If you like horror movies with dumb plots, dumb writing and really dumb characters than this TV show is for you.

The production values are a solid 10. For better or worse, the target demographic is adolescents and mid-teens of median intellect. The writing and plot are at a level of a 1980s Saturday morning cartoon. Dumbness and plot holes ruin the experience virtually every 30 seconds. For example, a search and rescue team is dispatched to a spaceship crash: they look and act like a comic small town militia, sloppy, inept, no discipline, armed to the teeth, no rescue or search equipment. The WTF moments just keep stacking up until the irritation factor just turns you off.
I've just finished the first two episodes. As a fan of the original movie and being in my fifties, this series is definitely not for me. It's got none of the suspense, tension or build of the original, a weird teen genius who eats apples and appears to be a moron, super-fast synthetic children in adult form who move painfully slowly at all times. Sorry but I just found the whole thing utterly ridiculous.
Also - it's still just set in a spaceship, it just happens to be crashed into the side of a building.
Very disappointing.

Alien Earth collapses under its own eagernes, to be profound, to reinvent, to cash in on nostalgia without daring to commit to any. The synthetic "children" wandering the set feel more like stunt casting gone wrong, and their supposed "dark innocence" floats on a sea of plastic acting that laughs in the face of genuine fear. The alien itself, once a menacing force lurking in shadow that used to embody primal fear, is rendered a dumb accessory tossed about on set. Where Alien used minimalism, shadows, and the human form to craft existential horror, Alien Earth hits us with glitzy CGI that looks as authentic as a dollar-store Halloween mask. Gore is swapped for cheap spectacle, existential horror is replaced with wannabe philosophizing that never lands. Hybrids, corporate intrigue, identity crises, weird needle-drop music.
The worst offense? Supposedly set in 2120, the props and sets look more like 1990s scrapyard leftovers than a plausible future. Monitors, weapons, and lab equipment feel out of place, clunky, and unimaginative, completely failing to sell!
Ultimately, it's an awkward Frankenstein of genre-strands, each poorly stitched, offering none of the terror, none of the suspense, only hollow, mechanical emptiness. A disservice to the legacy of Alien.
