I think this episode made it clear (Even though it was already) that Re:Zero isn't "About Subaru"; to be frank with you, I couldn't care less about Emilia or her family if it weren't for her second trial; not only was it wholesome and heartwarming (Yet heart-breaking and sad), but also showed how much Emilia has changed because of Puck, Subaru, the first trial and Ram; because if she was the season 1 Emilia, then she would've easily dismissed the reality or even forget it; just to be in that fake dream, but as we saw, she rejected that sweet dream and chose to face the bitter reality.
Another thing some people might miss, is that Emilia never saw her face in the mirror after contracting with Puck, he was always the one to take care of her appearance and outfit, thus, she couldn't help but feel insecure whenever someone insults her appearance or connect her to the witch, but at the end of the trial, she finally saw her face properly in the reflection on the water, and that she's not a witch or a devil or a filthy creature. So Don't expect her to subject to other's racism anymore (Unlike her attitude in EP 13)
Also, the second trial made the death of Fortuna and Guese more tragic and gave more weight to Petelguese's character; back in season 1, some people accused the villains to be one-dimensional and evil just to be evil, rather than having character development, respectable motivations, a backstory or any weight.
If you noticed this pattern, then please restrain from judging the characters' depending on the screentime they had before their "Death"; because these (Post-"Death" characterization) occasions, apparently will keep reoccurring as the story progresses.
