Steel Will

Was a bit skeptical, when randomly looking one evening on ShortsTV streaming channel for anything to watch stumbled upon "Steel Will".

Indie, in sci-fi genre rarely this day can present anything watchable.

This one proved me wrong. Visuals, fight choreography, lighting effects and slow motion scenes - all blended just superb. Carried me through whole film, left definitely wanting for more.

But what made me care - was story. Drama, and i mean, simple, relatable, and very mundane and understandable by everyday person drama was delivered very palpable. Whoever was responsible for this one - writer, director, acting team - done their work just fine.

I was touched by story of this "Steel Will", and must say, i rarely can be touched by just a simple movie. For sure recommend to watch, just to experience this ride of emotions and talkative visuals.

I got upon "Steel Will" by sheer chance - through friend got tickets to Rock the Shorts film festival. To be honest, most were subpar or just boring. But this one - a beast apart. Gritty, harsh, exciting. Grabbed attention from first ever frame and holds all the way down. Whoever directed and framed those shots - require extra credit. And when i learn that it was done on so limited means and budget - just blowed my mind. This fresh idea and visuals deserve to be made into feature. I know, that same team tries to raise budget to make it happen - definitely will help them. Or somebody from bigger studio or agency should contact this guys - in modern cinema something of this great concept should not be left without attention, as for sure will bring in audience.

I was lucky to watch "Steel Will" during Oscar-qualifying festival at Palm Springs. Despite being just a short under something like 20 min, this was so fresh and entertaining, especially if compare to majority of modern sci-fi movies. For me it was perfect balance of family drama and gritting boxing action, toppled with powerful message at the end. I liked how it was mundane, easily to recognize arguments between loving couple, put against unique camera-work in action scenes. This story definitely need to get it's transition as a full feature, as i am more than sure that director E. Khazin will deliver wholesome and visionary picture.

That was heading under which i first heard about "Steel Will" in some blog or magazine. And it piqued my interest, as an avid sci-fi enjoyer.

Was hunting for quite some time, until at last managed to watch it during Rock the Shorts Film festival.

I was rocked and shocked to the core. Budget for this short was definitely low, but it all passes you since opening shots.

It is rare, when boxing movie have both good choreography and stunning visuals - and here it is present. Just how lights positioned in some shots - my compliments!

But also good story on the other hand, strong definitive vision of director, and pretty touching drama - career vs family, calling vs your love ones. Lead actor - Sean Ferguson? - delivered that heartbreaking crossing life point just perfectly. This moved me very much. Since then rewatched title twice, hence they come up on ShortsTV.

Definitely one of few sort indie movie that worth its time!

I may be not the intended target audience for "Steel Will", as i am not too much of boxing movies fun, and discovered this title just by going through director Khazins filmography - but it actually managed to captivate me with very strong vision and gripping story. Actors were very believable to me, both leads - Robert and Penelope. Especially Penelope - as s woman myself, i easily can understand and sympathize with her. Her last decision truly hit me hard, even if i may disagree with her. That scene of I definitely would like to see some more films from this team, maybe re-watch "Steel Will", or look at continuation of this same story.
