There Will Be Blood

This show is fabulous and it is wonderful that it has been renewed. The first episode re-establishes the story and characters with the beautiful humorous style we enjoyed in season one. Jean Smart reprises her glorious larger-than-life character and Ava is desperately trying to neutralise her previous indiscretion before Deborah finds out.

After a solid first season this first episode of the new season starts rather plain and annoying. The characters seem to be more unbelievable, dumb and annoying and that seems to be the main comedic procedé here. Silly, juvenile and annoying, just like any other main stream sitcom.

The Kayla character for instance is just too stupid and dumb to be just a little believable. Ava's behaviour is just as stupid really. Such a shame.

So Season 2 looks to be a rebirth for the main character, after Season 1 established the relationship. But what is already detracting from the show is the Kayla character. I'm hoping this is a broad approach by the producers and not how the actress really is. Because even if the character is supposed to be the agency owner's daughter, her attitude, demeanor, and general annoying character would NEVER be tolerated in any office environment. I get that thesis a TV show and not a documentary, but just about every other character on Hacks seems to be believable except for the Kayla character. If this isn't fixed, the show would be better off without her (although I know she won't be dropped). She is truly cringe-worthy and not in a fun comedic way.
