With the multi-punch comedy timing of shows like Futurama, Simpsons, Family Guy and a lot of the Adult Swim fare, Dogs in Space feels almost a little too fast or complex for kids. But it does truly adhere to being rated Y7, even though just barely. There are a lot of hard sci-fi references and jokes about psychological or 'adult problems' for the parents that sometimes feel a little awkward or over the heads of the age intended- but nothing is actually offensive or inappropriate. There are a few scenes, situations and creatures that may be scary or gross for some kids, but there's not any (red) blood or anything more than cartoon violence.
Captain Garbage is a more likeable Zapp Brannigan, Captain Kirk, and Homer Simpson tolled up in dog form and Haley Joel Osment knocks it out of the lark. The crew are all likeable sci-fi stereotypes, although Ed, who is kind of like the Bender of the crew, is the most questionable character and possible bad influence for a Y7 series. As a rather one-note greedy looter/pickpocket/scoundrel with some other shady dealings, he feels a bit out of place in the crew and show.
Overall, for nerdy parents and their kids who already have some classic sci-fi under their belts, it's a really good series full of good jokes and references. If your kids haven't already seen any Star Trek, it could be a good introduction, and if they have, the viewing will be that much richer.

I'd put this up there with shows like Gravity Falls and Steven Universe which are geared towards kids, sure, but have well-written characters and plot lines with real emotional depth - I absolutely loved it as an adult and recommend it. I was totally invested the whole way through.
This show combines cute animated dogs and space action filled with fantasy violence. The characters are relatable and the plot ages well with modern kid's cartoons. Even though the age rating is TV-Y7 for me in the United States, this cartoon is also enjoyable for an older audience. There is also a diverse section of dog breeds, like Corgis and Boston Terriers. A storyline of what happens in the dogs' space base mashed with dogs fighting space monsters makes for an interesting and conceptually stunning show. The cinematography in this show also ages well with the modern era of kids cartoons. However, it would be nice to dig deep into the dogs' personal lives and how they play into the show.
Garbage is a narcissistic, egotist with a hero complex. I would rather witness him perform the Loaf's job. No depressing scene could ever convince me that he is capable or qualified to serve as captain. Additionally, you're teaching children that doing wrong can result in rewards. I do not support that message, either. Garbage caused issues even when he was a tea person. Could you incorporate him in the action by not placing him in the forefront? What made Loaf's job not a two seater? When Stella was doubting herself hearing Garbage voice made her confidence. Garbage may understand the value of team through Loaf, could be a role model and help Loaf with his fears. Making Loaf the Greatest Capitan EVER.
Even if youre not a dog person, you will definitely enjoy this a lot. Its funny, full with actions, amazing adventures, great scifi and fantasy aspects. Love the characters development and world building. Cute characters design and amazing voice casts. Great sound effects. Perfect for adults and children. Many funny moments. Big clap for the writers for the amazing storyline. HIGHLY recommended.
