Marshmallow

I loved the ideas in this movie, as far fetched as some of them are. The film seems tightly wound for a while, and too serious, and then kind of comes apart and there's execution issues all over it. Was it a good time though? Yes. Are the ideas great sci-fi? Yeah, I think it was innovative and a really fun late night watch. Points for entertainment and innovation and that has to mean something when so many movies are made today simply to put on in the background when you doom scroll and fold your clothes. If you're into science fiction and interesting indie filmmaking then you should give this a watch.

Do not watch this on headphones, unless you like ripping them off your head and throwing them across the room as the entire cast of kids have the most annoying high-pitched screams, turned up to 11, complete with excrutiatingly loud banging noises instead of a proper soundtrack.

This is a poorly directed movie about some kids at summer camp where nothing is as it seems. The story has some pretty good ideas. It's a shame it takes so long to get going and it ends just as it gets interesting.

It's a not wholly original, but it's a sci-fi tale with a lot of potential for a rewrite and remake. In more experienced hands, this could be filled with existential dread. As it stands, it's filled with piercing audio, sluggish pacing and tropes aplenty.

I really enjoyed this,

starts like it's going to be a summer camp slasher, but already different as the kids are not 30 year old actors pretending to be 17 year olds, its 13 year olds pretending to be 13 year olds...

the twist was good, and explains a lot, obviously it also raises a lot of plot holes but think it was solid enough.

The last minute or two was great, and could have been made more of but like the sudden impact of it.

Overall was really enjoyable, there is very little gore / deaths if your expecting that from a summer camp slasher your might be disappointed.

It was different and i love that, yeah was very rough round the edges and with a bigger budget obviously could have been better but think everything was good enough, the acting was good as always a risk when you have to use so many young kids in a horror movie, which i guess is why it's normally done by 30 year olds pretending to be in high school.

There's a common theme amongst modern movies and I'm over it.

The movie stands alone as its own. It's unique, it has a great twist, takes kinda long to get going and will make you pull your hair out trying to figure out what's happening but in all, just feels a little like a waste of time.

But the annoying theme!

Please stop disguising movies. Modern movies will make you think it's about one thing but it's about something totally different. Watching the trailer you'd think this was a slasher/horror movie, it's not.

Overall it has a great plot but poorly executed in my opinion. Didn't even need to go "the doctor route" or pretend to be a 80s 90s horror movie type, clearly misleading.

Had potential but almost seems like it was two different movies bumping heads over which was gonna take the forefront. Kind of a miss.

Marshmallow starts strong, with a creepy summer camp setting and a cast of likable kids, but it ultimately fumbles its big twist-and with it, the whole story.

The atmosphere is there: isolated cabins, campfire stories, and a real sense of dread as things begin to unravel. The young cast-especially Kue Lawrence, Kai Cech, and Max Malas-bring some authentic energy to the screen, and for a while, it feels like this could be a fresh take on the camp horror genre.

But then the "twist" hits..... Instead of a traditional slasher, Marshmallow shifts into something more sci-fi and existential, introducing a whole new layer that's... interesting, but poorly executed. Without spoiling too much, the film suddenly asks the audience to reconsider everything they've seen-but without giving us the time or substance to really unpack it. It's ambitious, sure, but it comes across more as a gimmick than a revelation.

Themes of grief and identity are hinted at but barely explored, and the ambiguous ending feels less thought-provoking and more like the writers ran out of runway. It wants to be deep, but without a strong foundation, the final moments just don't land.

In the end, Marshmallow is a bold swing that doesn't quite connect. It has atmosphere and potential, but the ridiculous twist ending melts any momentum it had built.

A clever idea that doesn't stick the landing.
