One Piece is an amazing TV anime and one I've been watching for more then a decade. So I was make sure to tune into their movies. While this movie was far from their best, I still enjoyed certain aspects. If you tune in to watch a bunch of fighting (which most fans would've seeing as it is a battle shonen) then the movie is not good. Personally, I thought the musical + battle arrangement was innovative, of course it could've been better but the overall story was able to entertain for the duration (until the last part). I personally found the ending a mix of being extremely cool and extremely cringy, Shanks and his crew can't actually show their power because spoilers so it felt a bit awkward, and the choreography is nothing compared to Stampede. The music and animation was great, but Uta felt annoying, its a waste seeing as I thought she could've been the best movie only character. Overall, fun movie but would not satisfy most fans, particularly those who expect the usual style of One Piece movie.
Luffy doesn't say "Gomu gomu no.." even once. The story is pathetic. Uta is so unappealing as a character. The songs sound like they have been made up in 10 minutes each. The CGI is god awful. The dialogue is so fast paced and not memorable. The fighting is unacceptable for One Piece standards. Same formula from the Stampede movie is used: Bring all the characters in one island and give all of them their signature one liners.
Don't try to put this garbage into the regular One Piece timeline. Think of it as a fan side-movie that has nothing to do with the story. I really hope they come up with something more creative next time.
5 points for the lighting during the songs. That was a feast to the eye.

I don't wanna admit but yes One Piece Red was not the best part in One Piece movies. The story was not solid, and even though I knew it was about Uta and Shanks and music, there was too much songs filled in the movie.
Yeah, I liked the last 15-20 mins with all the action, and also watching couple of my likeable characters (Katakuri) coming back to screen. Apart from that, the first half was not much interesting. Can say, that One Piece Red is a one time watch, although they have done good job with the animation and OST.
Story : 5/10 Animation : 7/10 Characters : 6/10
My Final Rating : 6/10.

I'm not caught up with One Piece by any means, but that didn't keep me from enjoying this film! The animation and effects are visually very appealing. The songs were tacky at the worst, and while the plot was pretty predictable, just going with the flow of the movie allowed me to enjoy the antics. I'm not sure how this plays into canon (if it IS canon), but Uta is decently complex and stunningly over-powered. I loved seeing the extent of her devil fruit powers, and her dynamic with Luffy was entertaining, too. Besides the crowd being a bit rowdy, I had no serious gripes with this movie. A fun watch, and if you're dedicated to the franchise, probably a lot to discuss too.
The purpose of this message is to temper expectations and to reduce disappointment, so that the viewer can enjoy the movie for what it is.
I think this movie is not really a One Piece movie: it does not capture what the manga or TV series is about or their spirit, and does not capture what makes them good or what people read and watch them for. It makes mistakes in areas that the series excels in and does things that are unprecedented in the series. It is instead a movie about One Piece, or a One Piece themed movie. I think you should see it as a 'fan made movie' or perhaps a 'fan service movie' or a film maker's (who is not Eiichiro Oda) original take on One Piece.
Since the movie is for 'fans' of One Piece and since it is not a 'One Piece quality' movie, I think generally speaking people unfamiliar with One Piece should not watch this movie.
I think the movie is still worth watching for those interested in the movie. What I found enjoyable in the movie are the very fantastic and beautiful songs and accompanying visuals in the movie, the original ideas or the original take on a One Piece movie, and the interesting and powerful set up or start. I would have rated this movie an 8 if the marketing surrounding this movie didn't present it as anywhere near canon or authentic.
Expect cringe AND enjoyment (at the same time). This is a movie you do not want to be canon in any way, because the way familiar characters act in this movie sometimes appears unrealistic or at least questionable. Perhaps the right expectation is to expect a nonsensical spectacle, because my constant cringing in the second half of the movie did lessen my enjoyment quite a lot. If I knew in advance that this movie was not to be taken seriously, I would have been more mentally prepared for this movie.
To give you an impression of what kind of person I am, these are some series I have rated highly in the past: 'The Sandman', 'Violet Evergarden', 'Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song ', 'Great Pretender', 'Messiah', 'The OA', 'Sense8', 'Beastars', 'Dark', and the movies 'Interstellar' and 'Arrival'.
