Kobane

I can't believe I didn't hear about this movie until now. I only wished that they showed this in theatres. This movie is as realistic as it gets about the siege in Konani in 2014/2015. In fact this movie was produced by the Rojava Film Commune and filmed in Syria. The characters in this movie are based on individuals who sacrificed their lives during the siege. Tributes were paid to them at the end of the movie. This movie is about 2.5 hours long but I didn't feel bored at all. All the battle scenes were well filmed. The music and soundtrack in the movie can be better. Must watch for anyone who cared about what happened in Kobane!

It felt realistic to me, the fights weren't exaggerated, there were no Rambo like individuals, but instead it focussed on the power of the collective. Deaths looked realistic also and the dialogue too, no cringe hollywood dialogue but it felt like a documentary/report. Characters were based on real fighters that fought in the battle, like Arin Mirkan. You've got to realize that the movie is based on real events, or else you might think it's too slowly paced. I think there weren't unnecessary events in this movie, it gave us information about the many different characters and the complexity of the battle. I also liked all the effects, I can imagine this movie didn't have a Hollywood budget but there were enough quality depictions of fights. This movie truely honores the fighters, it's not aiming for exploiting this event like some for example Vietnam War movies do. Watch the movie if you appreciate the things mentioned above but even if you're just looking for a lot of action I think it's worth your watch too.
