    Tension

Good first episode, but I expected more, just didn't know what.

After watching...bingeing, the first four seasons last year, I, along with rest of the Yellowstone community have been looking forward to this season, this first episode.

Everyone is back, and they have not lost any of their luster...thank you Taylor Sheridan. Beth and Jamie, their contentious hateful relationship, wow. I'm waiting for Jamie to go off the rails after being treated like he is by Beth. Then there's Kayce, he's endured so much trauma and he continues to do his job and play his character. Rip, I love how he plays the constant "got your back" guy. John Dutton, though everything that is bad about his family comes from him he is the man in Yellowstone.

We are looking forward to what is next....can't even imagine though.

Again, I was left wanting more in the first episode, I'll be patient though

    TENSION!!!!!!!!

I watch this show like Dr pimple popper

I'm not sure if I watch this because good post pandemic tv is as sparse as during the pandemic or it's some sort of guilty pleasure. Like watching a really bad show to laugh

And here is why, I think this

The show unapologetically displays the Dutton family as the Sopranos. Low moral and unethical values towards everyone but the literal few members in the family (but not all family members). Murder is easily accepted and for trivial reasons. They brand human beings in this morbid sense of ownership/solidarity for the worker bees.

I have no idea hy so many people rave about Beth. She is a repulsive human being with zero humanity. Evil comes to mind. Sociopath comes to mind. I have not want d a show to kill off a character so bad since Geoffrey in GOT, but even that show had what this one does not...it had a give and take of power and struggle between people and groups.

The script in nearly every episode is a child's game of "I win". The plots are laughable as their is zero real character development in any character on the show. No lessons. No obstacles...the give and take. It's just an entry if new character...a Dutton has a tantrum and then they win. Zero real world accountability. They use situations like other gravity ti then and characters like tissue paper. Use them and then throw them away for no purpose than Dutton win. It has been a long time since I have seen a show close to as bad as this with so many aspects. I can B rated shiws know to let the main cast struggle for good portions of a season. To show lessons learned. To grow. To change.

And the toxic cowboy up mentality fixes all. Get shot with builders several times over...then just cowboy up and you can just rip out your IV and walk out the hospital, go ride a horse and good in a few days at full health. --or destroy your spine, but cowboy up after doctor says any impact will make you a quadriplegic and then you are suddenly fine. Although ti be honest about that character...he was the ONLY one I router for...and mainly to get away from Duttons...to a ranch's be people who aren't evil.

But route for all characters that have a chance to obliterate the Dutton family. This show has made me not trust Montana as a whole...even though I'm sure most people there are just hard working people. But this show is my only reference and has made me not want to ever go there. And that makes me sad, even though I realize this is a fake depiction. But real world people have swept social media applauding this family. Especially Beth. And that is what scares me.

In contrast, the spin off 1883 was incredible. Shocking that 2 singers did 1000% better than veteran actors in Yellowstone. Supposedly there is another spin off coming. I hope and pray it's like 1883 and not Yellowstone.

Picked up where it left off....

What on earth has happened to this show. It's become so bleak. All of the characters are incredibly unlikeable and the story is going nowhere. I hoped things would pick up after the disastrous season 4, but it seems to have picked up where it left off. The constant bullying of Jamie is just getting boring. Beth's character used to have some depth and intrigue, now she just seems to be full on dick. Really, really hoping that season 5 takes a turn for the better, but at the moment, I'm not not overly hopeful. The show desperately needs some new strong characters who can shake things up a bit. Fingers crossed.

    One Hundred Years Is Nothing

It's crazy to think about the popularity of this show at this point in time. The four seasons that led up to this had assembled such a strong fanbase that multiple spinoffs were imminent and Taylor Sheridan's hold over Paramount+ had expanded with many other shows as well. However, this is a show that has had an issue with its storytelling and it doesn't really seem like that is of anyone's concern, even as we're walking into the show's final season, which will be interesting. This opener doesn't do a lot for anything really, but it does set the stage for John Dutton's political career.

No matter how many times John Dutton will try to tell you that he is not a politician, it doesn't change the fact that he is now the governor of Montana and will have to put his power where his mouth is. That was always an interesting route for the show to go in, and it does feel like they're going to do the most with it, which is what they should do. This is the most sublime Dutton has ever felt over his enemies, yet he doesn't feel like he's doing what he needs to do, which creates a very fascinating dilemma in a character who has always been able to see the next step of his plan. He's certainly setting boundaries for his enemies, but what will it ultimately bring him is the question that we're all asking. That is certainly the episode's most interesting part as it combines a lot of the family in one place, but Kayce is still doing his job as livestock commissioner, and doing it fairly well in a big sequence that does put some energy into a fairly mellow episode. The subplot about Monica's pregnancy isn't really that interesting, and adding another child into the mix probably wouldn't really do a lot of good for a show that already has some issues with its child characters. Which brings me to the flashbacks, of which I hope the show will continue what season four did and have minimal of those, because that's filler that I don't really need.

"One Hundred Years Is Nothing" feels like it's setting the stage for a political storyline that will carry weight, but not really do anything for the big finale of the show. This show doesn't really have a storyline in place, and it may be too late to fix that, but at least we can still hope.

Why has this show got its hooks into me?

It's frustrating, believe me, but my wife and I really like this show. We took a chance on it about a year ago, and ended up bingeing four seasons pretty much straight. And now we start the fifth, after a healthy layoff. Why 'frustrating'? Because I can't even tell if it's any good.

This episode continues the story nicely, reintroducing us to the characters. But it is just more of the same. And annoyingly, that's no bad thing. I don't think I like any of the characters, the storylines are relatively bland. And yet, I still like it.

So, in short, it's bizarrely compelling. Bleak and wonderful. And I have no idea why. Enjoy.

Abby: I'm too smart to date a cowboy. I like looking at em though.

Beth Dutton: You're wearing an orange jumpsuit with tassels, and you're saying you're too smart?

Abby: I sing later. Gotta wear something flashy on stage. Something fun. Crowd likes it.

Beth Dutton: Well, mission accomplished. Why no cowboys?

Abby: 'Cause they'll always love the life more. And the horse more. And the job more. The rodeo more. I wanna be first.

      Beth Dutton: You do?

      [Sees Rip in distance]

Beth Dutton: I prefer a man whose life is already full. That way he's got something to share with me. You know what I mean? If I want blind adoration, I'll get me a dog. I'm gonna go sit with my cowboy now.
