Lots of filler or material to catch up, basically if you didn't watch the Hawkeye series. A little rushed too, but it's got its positives. The chemistry between characters is really good and I quite like the dialogues. And the fight scenes, the few we got, and the choreographies for such, are great. For this it helps a lot the sound mixing; given the character of Echo is deaf, we get her perspective of the fights and tbh it's really interesting.
So far, the only stuff that has not been convicing is what already wasn't convincing back in Hawkeye. Really hope the creator will turn that around because that series was mediocre at best. No much more conclusions since this was only a setup character.

The shows first episode is awesome and badass! One of the greatest first episodes to a marvel show. That fight scene is great and I will definitely be rewatching that. The episode delves into some unexpected supernatural elements which is pretty cool. The visuals/practical effects are nice and the overall vibe feels more like a tvshow. It does suffer from some pacing issues but only minor and doesnt really affect the episode much. You can feel its a 5 episode season since certain themes could be explored for longer. Alaqua Cox is great and shouldn't be dismissed as echo. I have a feeling this show has scrapped echos comic book character competely and is just using the branding/name from the comics for this new version of echo who is totally different. This may be a negative to any comic book echo fans but the charcater is still deeply intriguing and exciting to watch. 8/10.
Once again, Marvel has done it, created a show that could've been spectacular, but failed at it. The writing and plot of the show is terrible. Honestly, I don't even know why it's rated TV-MA. It felt like all the other marvel Disney+ shows not the Netflix Marvel shows. The first episode was Great and had a great set up, but everything else went steeply downhill from there. The actors and actresses did an amazing job in their roles. The only problem is that Marvel seems to not know how to write a good script anymore. And even though they gave it a TV-MA rating, it's not at all TV-MA it's very light in all areas, which can be good but I don't feel like that's what Wilson Fisk is supposed to be. It reminded me more of the Hawkeye TV series in terms of violence and action. Not like the Netflix daredevil series that we were hoping for.
This was a solid first episode to the series. Although most of it goes over Maya's backstory and retells the story told in Marvel Studios' Hawkeye for the people that haven't seen it (or maybe can't remember about the character over two years after that series released), it's pretty good! It expands on Maya's character in a way Hawkeye never did, shows the triumphant return of Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk and sets-up the rest of the series very nicely
One of the key points with this episode is that it's much darker and more violent than anything else we've gotten in the MCU. It very much reminds me of watching the Defenders Saga on Netflix in the mid-late 2010s, and it's exactly the gritty and street-level content the MCU has desperately needed for some time now!

Made under the Marvel Spotlight banner. It has less emphasis on the MCU and more on character driven stories. Even then Daredevil shows up and there is footage of Hawkeye.
Maya Lopez appeared on the Hawkeye series back in 2021. She was in cahoots with Kingpin but not aware that Kingpin was responsible for her father's death.
The first episode has to deal with a lot of backstory. From her mother's death in an accident. Leaving her Native American town to New York. Where her father works for the gangster Kingpin.
Eventually after Kingpin's apparent death. Maya moves back to her roots after getting a nasty injury.
This looks to be a moody series, more aimed at an older audience. I did not find the first episode that exciting. The backstory had to do a lot of heavy lifting. Luckily actress Alaqua Cox has presence.

- TriviaDarnell Besaw who played young Maya is the cousin of Adult Maya actress Alaqua Cox. Unlike her cousin, Besaw is neither deaf nor an amputee, so that latter part about the character had to be done with special effects in her scenes.
