The worst episode in the whole show.. everything is wrong.. badly written.. how they liked it?! Chasing. Singing. Poor plot. Done.

They don't know how to filler the show in a good way.

I am wondering whether they intentionally made an episode in which the main characters do actions that make no sense whatsoever as a symbol of breaking the matrix and revealing the true nature of our world - senseless distopia that can break any moment.

Or they just had bad situational comedy choices, how can I know.

Anyhow, the episode is trash.

If this season was not as good as the first one. Only Murders in the Building makes a joke about it.

Marv of the podcast fan group is keeping the faith while the others are getting restless. Turning their attention to other pastimes.

With New York in a blackout, Marv seems to know about the tunnels in the Arconia as Lucy is in the building and in danger.

The blackouts leads to some nice character moments for other people in the Arconia, all done with the song The Sound of Silence.

I did feel for poor Lester having to climb all those flights of steps.

This was a good holding episode, with Oliver concerned about his paternity test. It did end with a good potential reveal which could be misdirection.

Mable thinks she has the identity of the Glitter Guy.

The episode was good except for one obvious goof up. The OMITB fans are back and do offer some light moments. The blackout sparks an unexpected romance. We also get to see a more empathic side of Nina. Most importantly the glitter guy is revealed. Without revealing the identity, all I can say is that this murder seems to be connected with Tim Kono's. Remember cops tried to close the latter without a thorough investigation. Now the goof up - I cannot stomach the lack of urgency shown by the trio in finding Lucy in the passages. That wasn't the time for yodeling.

If I ignore that one slip up, I think this was a well crafted episode.

After Episode 7 of the second series, 'Flipping the Pieces (2022)', I speculated the show was turning into a melodrama. I stand corrected: as of Episode 8, Only Murders in the Building (2021) is closer to pantomime - in the British meaning of the word.

The dwellers of the Arconia are plunged into the dark, as the Upper West Side suffers a power outage; hence the episode title 'Hello, Darkness'. Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) return to the building, having just learned that Charles's not-quite-adopted-daughter Lucy (Zoe Colletti) is inside, while the murderer remains on the loose.

One may expect a sense of urgency - after all, this is a literal matter of life and death. There's none. The episode meanders along, unconcerned with any questions previously posed by the show. (What was the meaning behind the painting of Charles's father? Is Oliver biologically related to Will? Somewhere within the Arconia, there are Amy Schumer and Cara Delevingne, with their plot-lines suspended. Not that I miss those characters, exactly; however, the great Shirley MacLaine - who briefly appeared as Bunny's mother - definitely does not deserve such neglect.)

The building stairs are revealed to be the true enemy. Martin Short bravely carries the bulk of the episode (and a bag of dips) on his shoulders, while the show continues to be largely well-acted and so, so poorly written.
