How are you going to leave a very popular show on a cliffhanger and then cancel it and not even give it a final season to wrap up the storyline. Hey Amazon get your head out of your a-, it's not a hat.
I really enjoyed the first season of "The Wilds". It was a bit of a surprise package, as I hadn't seen much promotion for it, but it was full of excellent performances and an intriguing story, with room to grow. Unfortunately, I knew that the show was cancelled soon after starting this second run but although it doesn't perhaps wrap up all the strands of the story as you'd hope it might, I still think that with this one, there's enough there to recommend going for the journey anyway.
Still reeling from the events of the first season, the girls try to recover from what's happened, whilst Leah (Sarah Pidgeon) tries to convince them of the truth of their accident. Meanwhile, on another island, the same experiment is undertaken with a similarly aged group of boys, to act as a control group. However, as with the girl's group, Gretchen (Rachel Griffiths) has influenced the selection of the party.
What I liked particularly about this season was that it didn't take the obvious storyline route of showing the boys as less capable than the girls. Indeed, it calls this idea out by having Gretchen want this to be the case to "prove" her research. The boy's group is, in fact, immediately more organised and successful than the girls were, until they're torn apart by the actions of one of them. Speaking of which, I was impressed with the way they handled that complex scenario and the complicated reactions of characters involved. Again, as with the first season, the boys feel like real people, with various shades to their personalities, rather than easy cyphers or tropes.
The cancellation does mean that there's not really a proper resolution to the series as it's clear that a third season was at least hoped for. I still would recommend the series to people though, even with that knowledge, as the cast are so good and the storylines leading up to it complex, grown up and addictive.

¿Sabías que…?
- TriviaDuring Shelby's dream, Gretchen offers her a choice between a red and blue Sour Patch Kid. This is a reference to the same choice offered to Neo from Morpheos in Matrix (1999). Choose red and you leave the matrix but get exposed to the truth of your situation, choose blue and you remain in the matrix, oblivious to the truth.
- ErroresWhen Leah looks at the letter opener on Gretchen's desk the tracking markers are visible on Gretchen's phone's screen.
