Starting off positively, 'Life and Death' gave us some stunning visuals of the natural world in the Star Wars universe, which added to some of the other good world-building elements. I thought the score was nothing out of the ordinary, but fit this episode well.
Personally, I found the animation in this particular episode a bit odd at times, especially when the yellow beast was introduced. Although the style bugged me, it was not bad enough to turn me off, however I thought the episode was boring and incredibly simple. This story was very predictable, added absolutely nothing to, and was unnecessary for the Star Wars universe. The writing for this to be good was just way too lazy... I cannot even see Ahsoka stans going crazy for this one.
Fortunately, 'Life and Death' is the odd one out, since five of the other episodes in this series were great...in their true 'Clone Wars' fashion.

Here we get an opening episode of a series filling in gsps in the prequel era of Star Wars.
This is a pleasant backstory for Ahsoka showing her home, her birth and the discovery of her force sensitivity.
There is some interest in seeing this origin story and the world Ahsoka is from.
The Clone Wars style animation, music and characters are decent.
The story of the ritual hunting expedition is a bit weird and the big cat creature is not the best creation.
It is an ok little story. Nothing special in terms of plot or concept but an adequate origin story for a great character.
This begins a very interesting and dark series which is a great addition to Star Wars.
My Rating: 7/10.

A solid start to the much anticipated show Tales of the Jedi.
It was interesting seeing the Togrutas and their home planet. The animation is in point, and baby Ahsoka is adorable! You can tell they used the same sounds for her as they did Grogu. We have only seen small Ahsoka at one point in The Clone Wars, and this gives more context into her connection with the force. We also get to see her mother and father and (presumably) the grandmother; who has a way of sending things as they are.
I wouldn't say it was anything fantastic, but I enjoyed it! Good atmosphere, good writing, good start to the show.

But that's okay!
I'm pretty excited about this show. A six-episode series of short stories is something I'm surprised hasn't been done yet (I haven't seen Visions yet but I'm assuming that's the same formula). This one wasn't bad, it just wasn't all that stellar.
As much as I love the animated Star Wars content (which is a lot), not every episode is great. Star Wars is no stranger to unoriginal plots either, which this one is. Still, I wa s happy to finally see something else regarding Ahsoka's race and home. It's a place I wouldn't mind revisiting either.
The whole hunting thing was alright. Nothing we haven't seen before in other movies and shows. That animation was pretty tight and I'm not sure I agree with the complaints as of yet. I do wish this had been longer though.
An okay first episode to get fans back on a Star Wars kick, I suppose.

This episode was just fine. The animation is beautiful and its nice to have an episode documenting the very beginning of Ahsoka's life, it gives a more 'well-rounded' feel to the character. However, the story is very small and simple, and it's telling that in the longest episode of the series the least happens. If the story had a bit more complexity and given the viewer a greater reason for its existence in the series, I would have rated it higher. I will say that the atmosphere is well-established, that being it feeling similar to Samuri films, and I liked the idea of presenting a small-scale story in such a large universe, which this episode did adequately. It get's better though!
¿Sabías que…?
- TriviaThe large saber-tooth-tiger-creature that baby Ahsoka encounters appears to be an Akul, a large predatory creature that the Togruta species hunt for rites of passage and collect teeth for their head jewelry.
