Mileage will vary
I adored this movie. I also get that this won't be true for everyone. Skinamarink is atmospheric, moody, and surrealist. It uses dreamlike logic to weave its minimalistic narrative. Much of the movie is static shots of hallways, corners, and empty rooms. The shadows hang thick. The film is grainy. All of this comes together in an experience that had my mind racing. What was hiding in the shadows? Who is it thats calling out to the kids? The paranoia this movie was able to create is unlike anything I've experienced in a while. It honestly reminded me of waking up from a nightmare as a child. My mind, still in a dreamlike state, would see monsters everywhere. It's is a very slow movie. The plot is ambiguous af. If that's not your thing, I'd skip it. But if you don't mind a very slow burn that gives back what you put into it, this one will be for you.
