Season 6 starting out great!

I guess those "young writers" started off strong.

Absolutely great episode that seems to address all the main plot threads while also being a very early seasons concept. That interview with Dan Harmon about letting young writers take the lead has me thinking this season might be really good.

Overall fantastic episode, felt like older Rick and Morty episodes (like a season 3 episode), with a hint of sombreness but with a right mixture of humor; lore heavy and character driven with tons of continuity. God I forgot how fast these episodes go. One of the strongest openers in years.

So glad Rick and Morty is on a reasonable schedule now so we didn't have to wait years for a new season, especially considering where the season 5 finale left off. I was surprised this season starts right where the last one left off, as they don't do that very often. A good episode, even though it seemed to fly by. I'm excited to see where this season goes. I think the fact that they are working on a bulk of episodes at once helps the canonical stories, even though I enjoy the one-offs as well. If you have been a fan of the show, expect more of what you're used to. Good episode to start season 6 with.

The show has grown up, going back to its roots, both in terms of canon and Rick and Morty's relationship.

Solid premiere, deconstructs the lore in a way that both gives a satisfying conclusion to the events of Season 5, and opens the door for more exploration in the following episodes/seasons. The family dynamic is more prominent here than ever, seeing the Smiths adjust to their new roles in the grander scheme of multiversal adventures.

Regarding the episode's story, while it may stray away from a gimmicky premise, preferring to tidy up the mess that last season's finale made lore-wise, it does have its laugh-out-loud moments and cool scenes, though they are not the focus of this premiere, which instead delves into the emotional core of Rick and Morty, presenting us with protagonists that are as confused and uncertain as they are weirdly confident in their abilities (and dare I say, mature). All in all, solid premiere that delivers on the promise of canon and family dynamics, allowing each character to shine and question their status in the family/universe.

As for Rick and Morty, their relationship feels just as grown-up as the world they inhabit, reminding me more of Seasons 1 and 2 rather than the more cynical following seasons, as they more than ever feel like a duo that could take on anything the multiverse could offer.

Rick and Morty has always had high expectations to meet. But the ending of season 5 might have been the most daunting since the end of season 2.

After a season with so many highs and lows, the team managed to patch things together with one of the best episodes in the entire series. Most fans knew that this first episode was going to make or break the show moving forward.

So did they meet those expectations?

Well that answer will change depending on who you ask, but to me, yes.

There's something refreshing about the show returning to it's roots. Embracing the narrative building season introductions of season 2 &3, but more importantly, further exploring the relationship between the Smith family.

This episode will make a lot of callbacks to previous seasons. Yet it never feels like pandering to the fans, rather a natural progression that the series had long abandoned. The result is some of the most memorable plot twists in ages and some incredible jokes as well.

The aspect that surprised me the most though...was how touching it was. I never knew how much I missed that aspect from this show.

It's nice to see the writers embrace such a simple theme too: family is more than just blood.

Here's hoping to a strong season!

After the ups and downs of last season, the expectations for this opener were high - or rather the hopes! - and I'm pleased to see that it doesn't disappoint. Actually it has a lot of what fans came to know and love about Rick and Morty; The mind boggling storyline manages to tie in old fan theories, calls back to previous seasons and adds to the family dynamics. The episode had a lot of depth and even depressing moments, but it was well balanced with action and good laughs. The Beth and Summer arc was a bit weak, but that's absolutely okay, as everything got tied together nicely in the end.

All in all it was not an overly brilliant episode, but it did a lot right, especially stuff that was weak in season 5. For example there were no super cheesy jokes and no weak or forced canon building - it felt like a solid Rick and Morty episode.
