8th episode of "Yellowstone" season 5 was a pretty solid episode. But if you consider it as a mid season episode, it pretty much in term of all previous episodes in season 5 - its a soup opera and melodrama set in west.
On the good side of this season so far was acting - its great. Locations are amazing but how long can it last? Writing is descent enough to keep me interested while watching an episode, but its a highly forgetable one - as soon as episode ends i'm forgeting what i saw in Yellowstone - and i have pretty good memory.
Overall, while being not bad melodrama on its own, i really hope they will turn the heat on in a second half of the season.
Is it a documentary for cowboys lifestyle?
Ironically, this season which contains almost zero main plot and less than zero side plots has more episodes than previous ones.
This show, unfortunately, became so boring.
This season has definitely been the weakest so far, call it a season break or a separate season whatever, it has been poor for the standards that the show has set.
Beth is becoming quite annoying, angry speech's and aggressive attacks at Jamie can only last for so long before it feels repetitive, and now for me it's repetitive.
The story of the season so far is all about protecting the ranch and John is governor, Jamie is seduced by an opposing faction and she has him fooled, Beth tries convincing John they need to move to a better business model and Kasey and his family are met with a big event.
Not much stands out, I do think we have good moments and maybe 2 solid episodes or there than that I'm a bit disappointed.
Rip and Kasey are the only ones I have an interest in, they are pulling the show at the moment, it's like we are used to episodes that are packed and full start to end but this season they are deflated, maybe one or two things happen and the rest is all filler.
Overall a fine first half/ Season A, 7/10.
This episode does work as the culmination of a lot of different season-long arcs that have reached a big crescendo, especially in terms of John's storyline. He has gotten away with things as governor for a long time, but after the things that were set up in the last episode were put in motion, that may have reached its end (and not just because Kevin Costner is no longer involved with the show going forward). The first half of the episode was very much dedicated to some very emotional moments between characters, and does signal a real investment from my side because of how nice I found these moments. The small character interactions have always been the heart of this show, and that's what really gives it heart and makes it something that people will want to continue watching. However, there are still the troubles of making everything fit and give it all the ending that it needs, while still furthering the story along and giving the audiences something to look forward to. And while this episode certainly set up a lot for the last half of the season, it also didn't feel like a definitive answer to a lot of our questions, and the long gap between seasons hasn't really done anything good for the show's flow. The conflict between Beth and Jamie has gotten to the point now where it doesn't even feel real anymore and the writers seem to be milking it for some kind of big show this coming season that also just feels weak.
"A Knife and a Coin" is a surprisingly emotional episode and a lot of character interactions gave the show a heart that it needed. But while this is one of the more interesting episodes of the season, it also left it all off with a weird taste in our mouths and it's impossible to garner a lot of excitement for what is to come.

- TriviaIn Roy Rogers final movie, Mackintosh and TJ (1975), the name of the ranch where they worked for Jim Webster was the "6666". This was also a cattle ranch and located in Texas.
- ErroresJamie addresses a joint session of the legislature asking that the Governor be impeached. This would never happen due to separation of powers for one. Any call for impeachment would have to come from the member of the legislature. Probably from the house or representatives and tried in the senate. If the Governor were removed, he would be replaced by the Lt. Governor, nor a special election.
