A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers

This episode and series is unbelievably annoying and irritating. Not one character is likeable. The way everyone talks soooo slowwww! Every show needs different speech patterns and tones but not this show everyone talks monotone then yells. Everyone is slow and boring and doesn't smile or laugh just sad slow talking. The sets and scenes all go on for way too long and somethings are figured out so quickly and others just drag on and on. Disney Plus needs some new show creators and actors and directors...the need to get back to fun shows with kids that are funny and charming is desperate. This show is sad and boring.

Let me start off by saying how much I loved the gruffiness and character of Ares. He's edgy and wild and a little comedic. It makes his character a little bit more complex and fun. I loved how vulnerable Annabeth is in this episode. She started off with a little more edge and a harder mask because of her past but her heart is growing so much more on this quest.

It's been awhile since I read the books but I remembered feeling very empathetic towards Hephaestus. His story is heartbreaking and even though he was vengeful, we know how abandoned he felt. He wasn't in episode as much as I'd like but they showed in him in a really beautiful light. I'm not gonna lie, I nearly teared up.

Annabeth's seniment towards the end of the episode is so real because it really only takes one person to inspire us to be better. But of course, we can't forget just how smart Grover really is. I love how they made his character a lot more observant and curious.

He isn't as nervous and anxious, instead he's very good at getting people to trust him. He's a very reliable character and I love how he's the glue that holds the trio together. I'm looking forward to the next episode after the cliff-hanger they left us on!

Episode five has some edge and plenty of cheeseburgers.

Percy, Annabeth and Grover find themselves as fugitives on the run from the law after what happened on the train.

They are now walking to Los Angeles and evading the police. There quest in truth is at an end.

Unexpected help comes from a motorcyclist on the road. It is Ares, the war god. He might be rough around the edges but he offers them a way to get to Los Angeles.

All they have to do is retrieve something Ares left behind at a theme park. Grover will stay behind as collateral.

It is a spiky episode. Of course it is no ordinary theme park they go to retrieve Ares's shield. It also marks the introduction of Hephaestus, the God of skill and craftsmanship who created the park and has a beef with Ares.

Pacing is still erratic and I do think the series is uneven.

I love edge don't get me wrong and he does really well in this. Buuuutttt he dosnt look anything like the god of war for one why's he not bald the god of war is also way more pale and his beard is to short. It's also a strange to change his name from kratos to Ares such a stupid chnage that wasn't necessary. There's no sight or mention of the blades of chaos or the Leviathan Axe but as we don't see the god of war in combat that's ok. I feel like it would of been nice for the show to stick to the actual Greek mythology instead of makeing it up but overall it's not a huge deal and ultimately if you don't know a lot about the Greek mythology it's not a bad watch .

Honestly, I am enjoying this show immensely so far. The actors are going for broke, the style looks fantastic (finding out the production designer, Dan Hennah, was the same one who worked on Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy made me understand why I like the visual style so much), and I'm really liking the way the main character dynamics are shaping up. However, I do have one major gripe; non of the gods we've met so far feel dangerous.

The gods in the book are, well, immortal, super powerful beings that can vaporize you with a look if you cross them. They are to be feared, and if you don't fear them, you'd better be willing to face their wrath. So far in this series, we have gotten no glimpses of the power the Olympians posses, only threats and frowns. They don't give off the literal vibes they gave off in the books, and have yet to display anything supernatural about them at all. The characters don't show nearly enough fear towards them, and I don't blame them, they aren't scary.

While that definitely deflates the episode a bit, especially in the climax, the main focus is on continuing to develop Percy and Annabeth's relationship, and on this front I feel they hit it out of the park. The length is also an improvement from the last installment, but it was still too short for my liking. Could absolutely have used an extra five minutes to make the retrieval mission a little more interesting. As for the story change made to this chapter from the book, I don't necessarily dislike it, since it is meant to facilitate Annabeth's character arc just as the last episode was meant to jumpstart Percy's, though I do think the show could stand to embrace the silly antics and ridiculousness of the original a bit more. One mustn't lose sight of the fun while telling a serious story.

Still, a good episode. I'm hopeful the next one will be longer, and bring back a little of that crazy fun the books did so well.
