The Plot to Kill My Mother

One night a pregnant woman gets into bed with someone im assuming is her husband. He has a gun by the nightstand and suddenly gets arrested. She moves into a witness protection home with her baby and we skip 21 years. We now see a grown up elenor. She must have been home schooled all that time otherwise people would be wondering why she has a resemblane to a woman people know. Her mum is murdered and it leaves elenor in a place where she starts to question everything and the only person that can help her is a cop. Acting is alright and elenor gets a real tear which is hard to find in these types of films. Overall not the worst still bad as there dosnt seem to be much action in it. Ps there is no evidence to suggest this was based on a true story.

Elena (Romy Weltman) has been in Witness Protection with her mother all her life without knowing it. Her mother goes to visit her sick grandmother even though she had been told that the lady was long dead. Her mother gets murdered. She insists on leaving Witness Protection to investigate her mother's case.

Elena is dumb and reckless. I'm ok with that. She is supposed to be young and emotional. Being dumb and reckless is not that bad although it is hard to watch her. The bigger problem is that the cop is almost as bad. He should be much smarter. He should be the one investigating. The movie would work better without him. That would elevate the danger and make for a more compelling thriller.

Apparently based on real events, a young woman discovers after her mother's murder that they were both living under Witness Protection.

Determined to discover who her mother really was, Elena ignores every piece of advice from her assigned protection officer and places herself in danger every five minutes.

It never occurs to her that her strong likeness to her mother might arouse suspicion in mother's home town and old associates - because of course nobody has moved away in the intervening 21 years.

"I know I shouldn't have confronted the man I think murdered my mother but I let my emotions get the better of me" sobs our hapless heroine after another near-death encounter. You'd think her protection officer would roll his eyes by this time but no, he smiles sweetly and tells her not to worry.

More detail about the original crime which sent Elena and her mother into Witness Protection might have given this story more weight (I know, bit of a stretch!) It would also have widened the focus from Elena to the other characters so she didn't have to carry the whole plot.

Pelting with rain today so this film passed the time.
