Refined Chaos.
What can I say; Cregger has cemented himself as a director worth watching, carving out his own weirdly brilliant corner of horror. You can feel echoes of Barbarian here, but this one feels sharper, maybe even a little more grown-up... though I say that with a grin, because the film is packed with silliness too. He has this knack for smuggling bits of himself into his work, little reflections of human nature, our flaws, our messy instincts, only this time it's all dressed up in the supernatural.
Sure, there are a few jump scares sprinkled in, the kind that feel so deliberately bad they're basically punchlines. But then the finale hits... absolute chaos in the best way. I laughed, I choked, I nearly spilled my drink. It's horror, it's comedy, it's a juggling act that somehow doesn't drop a ball.
