    Lagrange Point

By this point it is clear that the final season of Star Trek: Discovery is rubbish. The writers have given up and not even Jonathan Frakes can save this from the director's chair.

The Breen suddenly appear and snatch the final puzzle piece of the Progenitor technology. Captain Burnham hatches a daring plan to take two crews inside the Breen spaceship and get it back.

You could not take this stuff seriously when the senior crew discusses what to do when the Progenitor tech is stolen. This includes Tilly and Adira.

When Rayner is left in command once more as the First Officer. He inexplicably makes Tilly the acting first officer. Apart from the fact she is inexperienced and junior in rank. Who has been the acting first officer in the previous episodes when Burnham went off?

Adira is suddenly a top hacker. There is no one in engineering that can hack computers?

At the Breen ship, Moll is ordering the Breen about when you think they would just kill her. They are noted for not liking outsiders.

Frakes delivers on the action scenes. Let's face it the script gave him little options.

    Transporters

So one thing I don't understand on watching the latest seasons the new 32 nd century technology the Crew seems to use their com badge to transport themselves instead of using the turbo lift on the ship.ever since the USS Discovery landed in the way future with no hope of returning their century it seems that Crew is really taking advantage of 32 century technology nothing really makes sense it's a bit overwhelming to watch but I really did enjoy the first two seasons tho seeing how I'm a huge fan of the startrek franchise and movies especially the old startrek TNG with Captain Picard enterprise and the movies following the show. But I really throw up my hands at this particular show USS Discovery the least favorite but determined to watch all seasons till the very end end.my favorite character was the actor Doug Jones as commander saru but the show dwelt too much on the characters lieutenant stammet and Dr Hugh.

    Nearly at the end

Nearly at the end of the road, which isn't a bad thing. I do think the people responsible for the CGI, staging, and all that, have done an amazing job in this episode. And there is a lot of eye candy to enjoy.

But the writers have sorely let the franchise down. There are so many inconsistencies, plot holes, and frankly stupid decisions that it renders the entire episode pointless.

Pointless because as a viewer you end up questioning the script, rather than engaging with the characters and story.

This whole voyage of discovery for Burnham is pure cringe, and taken to an entirely new level in this episode. And, of course, as is now normal with Discovery, there was a moment of touchy-feely niceness between her and Book. Just as they had camouflaged themselves as Breen, a very violent race, and infiltrated their ship. Seriously? That's when you have a heart to heart?

It was nice to see Blu del Barrio's character, Adira, in a slightly different light. The actor had a little bit of space away from the cringe and did a nice job being terrified.

    Enjoyable moments, but wearing thin

As a generic action heist story it is reasonably good if you can accept the portrayal of the Breen's utter ineptitude. I like how the mission unfolds and find the disguised away team pretty amusing. Watching Sisko, O'Brien, and Odo posing as Klingons on DS9 was hilarious so I can extend this episode the same courtesy of disbelief suspension.

I think the scenes on the bridge of Discovery are enjoyable, particularly with the filmmakers finally using the character of Rayner to good effect. There is a moment when he memorably shuts down another character who deserves it.

Other parts worth mentioning include the couple scenes between Michael and Book and Saru and T'Rina. The former I still struggle with but the latter works well.

I think it is a tough one to score. As a standalone episode it feels enjoyable enough to warrant a 7, but the overarching narrative of the TNG episode The Chase being stretched over an entire season is wearing very thin.

    6.5/10, but I round upwards.

The writers should spend less time in the oil bath and more time at their desks

Ignoring all the typical DIS heartbreak and the fact that Starfleet is portrayed as a bunch of amateurs just like the Breen, the remaining 15 minutes of this episode aren't as bad as usual. At least this time it's not just Burnham who's being sent on a mission. Although Burnham will certainly be the focus again in the final episode, as she jumps through the dimensional gate into the pod after Moll.

But of course this episode is again overshadowed by facepalm elements: In Starfleet you can now apparently decide for yourself whether you are sent on a critical away mission or not. While in other Star Trek series the words "That's an order" were regularly uttered by the captains, I don't recall Burnham ever using these words in her role as captain. Adira can decide for herself whether she wants to go or not. And of course her self-appointed foster fathers, Culber and Stamets, act like two worried parents sending their child to school alone on the bus for the first time. Incidentally, Culber apparently does not see it as his officer's duty to be in sickbay in the middle of a battle to tend to possible wounded. Instead, he supports Stamets emotionally in engineering, because no one on board Discovery can do their job without emotional support. See Burnham: Even in a time-critical infiltration mission surrounded by Breen soldiers, there's apparently still enough time to express her feelings to Book - but since the Breen in DIS are portrayed as incompetent idiots anyway, who are looking forward to some gay games in an oil bath after work, you can apparently just take a stroll on their battleships without looking suspicious.

And in good DIS tradition, even during the big showdown there is still enough time to talk about feelings or hug each other. Saru also seems to have all the time in the world. Speaking of showdown: How come Starfleet only sends ONE ship to the place where the Progenitor tech is hidden? And what about all the allies in the United Federation of Planets? Doesn't anyone want to stop the Breen from laying their hands on dangerous technology? You can't shake the feeling that Starfleet only has a handful of ships and that there are no allies left in this vast galaxy. Vulcans, Andorians, Tellarites... where are they when you need them?

By the way: The Progenitor tech is hidden in a unique binary black star system, which would have been measured, charted, analyzed and examined with probes by dozens of research ships over the last 800 years. But no one noticed this strange object? Sure. And can someone please remove Tilly from the bridge once and for all? She is completely unprofessional and a disgrace to Starfleet. She also complains to Rayner that it makes the crew nervous when he's constantly pacing back and forth. If this makes the bridge officers nervous, then they have chosen the wrong job. In the other Star Trek series, the bridge crew in particular was always portrayed as the elite on board and not as crybabies.

And why does this one person (whose name I don't know) want to buy this other person (whose name I don't know either) a drink when on the one hand everything is replicated anyway and on the other hand money no longer has any meaning (except for Latinum greedy Ferengi)?

    • Trivia
Lagrange Points are positions in space where the gravitational forces of two large objects, like the Sun and Earth for example, balance out with the centrifugal force of an orbiting object, creating a point of equilibrium. Lagrange Points are important for spacecraft as it creates a natural "parking spot" that allows them to maintain position while expending very little fuel. There are five Lagrange Points in the Earth-Sol orbit and are often used to "park" satellites, for example NASA's new James Webb space telescope is located at the second Lagrange Point, between Earth and Mars orbital paths, and orbits the sun at a distance of 1.68 million kilometers (1.04 million miles) from Earth.

When Moll tells Burnham and Book to "lose your helmets" and they tap the button to dematerialize the helmets of their Breen disguises, Burnham's long hair is suddenly sticking out the back of her helmet before it dematerializes.
