A Glossy, Shallow Dive into Familiar Waters
Fountain of Youth looks the part but has none of the charm or urgency of the adventure classics it borrows from. John Krasinski and Natalie Portman are stuck in a script that favors exposition over emotion, and despite globe-hopping, booby traps, and a mythical fountain, the story never builds real momentum. Guy Ritchie's usual style is muted, and even the action feels perfunctory. It's not unwatchable-but it is deeply forgettable. Great cinematography and Eiza González aside, this is more "content" than cinema. A second-screen special.
Glossy and globe-trotting, Fountain of Youth has the budget, the stars, and the locations-but none of the heart or momentum. Portman deserves better. Krasinski is miscast. Only Eiza González and the Cairo finale come close to working. File under "background noise."
