I had the unique pleasure of attending the premiere of Black Creek in Los Angeles last October, and I've been thinking about it ever since. A movie created by the legendary Cynthia Rothrock, Black Creek is a bold, genre-blending film that feels like a landmark moment in martial arts cinema. To put it simply: this isn't just a martial arts movie - it's a martial arts western, and possibly the first of its kind.
What makes Black Creek stand out is how it refuses to be defined by just one genre. Yes, there are the thrilling fight scenes you'd expect from Rothrock, delivered with her signature precision and power. But beyond the combat, there's a real story here - one grounded in emotion, family, justice, and redemption. The dusty, lawless frontier setting adds texture and mood that elevates the entire film.
Rothrock proves once again that she's not only an action icon, but a true storyteller. Her character is compelling, complex, and rooted in a sense of purpose. The film doesn't rely solely on fists and kicks to move the plot forward - it uses drama, tension, and character development. That's a rare achievement in action cinema.
Black Creek breaks new ground, and it does so with style and sincerity. It's a film that pays homage to both the western and martial arts traditions while creating something entirely fresh. For longtime fans of Cynthia Rothrock, this movie is a gift. For newcomers, it's a perfect introduction to what she can do when given creative control.
In a world where Hollywood keep releasing the same old action films, Black Creek rides in like a breath of fresh air - bold, unique, and unforgettable.

BLACK CREEK - has your back seat to a sensational return to the screen and this time Grandmaster Cynthia Rothrock wearing triple hats in the cr8tive film making realm. In her 4 decades in film , she has incredibly grown not only as an actress but a very viable filmmaker. Here she's plays outlaw Rose Jennings , who learns her dear brother has been murdered and seeks the inexcusable reason why . (tho some may say revenge plot cliche ) the DELIVERY of this utilized formula , is HEARTFELT ORIGINAL w the performances of the entire cast , w Keith Cooke (Scorpion from Mortal Kombat & China O Brien) deliberating more depth than usual with this role , as a ranch hand from her past . Long time Martial Arts sensation Richard Norton (Norris The Octagon /Fury Road/and king time costar of Mrs Rothrock . And sadly recently passed away as this is now his final film performance ) as the villain, Sinclair in a revenge western , that also has a lot of heart with its story on redemption , reception & ultimately restitution complete with a well rounded cast from a lot of action film history , w excellent performances by Undefeated WORLD CHAMPION Benny The Jet Urquidez and his fight reunion with another #1 Champion in tournament circuit Sensei Keith Vitali and Kickboxing champion Don The Dragon Wilson as a surprisngly belivable shaman healer , the film has MUCH MORE going for it , than just an action martial arts film ... if you like The Magnificent Seven or Outlaw Johnny Black , you'll absolutely love saddling up for BLACK CREEK !!!
On the 17 June BLACK CREEK was released on major platforms and I watched it twice, and that is after I was blesses to be on a premiere in California. This is such an amazing old west story, but its also a martial arts western. Not just that I find it to be a dark graphic novel on screen. Yes there is also a real Black Creek novel and the film is even cooler! The martial arts film legends Cynthia Rothrock, Richard Norton (Rest in peace🙏🏻), Keith Cooke, Don Wilson, Keith Vitali, Benny Urquides and more made am amazing ansamble and so many cinematic views. The mood set on screen puts chills down my spine. Crazy stunts, fight choreography directed by Mike Moller, what a pleasure for my eyes! I really hope to see more soon, no spoilers, see the end credits.
I'll be honest-I went into Black Creek thinking this was going to be a respectful nod to all of us who've stuck with Cynthia Rothrock through the years. A little nostalgia, a couple of signature kicks, and a reminder of why she's a legend.
But she went above and beyond.
Yes, the nostalgia is there-those fight beats, that no-nonsense stare, the quiet intensity before the storm-it all hits in the best way.
But what I didn't expect was just how much grit, power, and heart Rothrock still brings to the screen. This isn't just a tribute to her past roles-this is a legit action film with real stakes, solid performances, and a leading lady who hasn't missed a step.
The fight scenes are raw, grounded, and tight-no flash just for the sake of flash. Every move feels earned. She's not just here to show up-she's here to remind everyone that she still sets the standard.
And let's not ignore the emotional depth she brings to this one. There's a weight to her character that makes you lean in between the punches. She wears experience like armor-both on-screen and off-and it shows.
So, to Cynthia: thank you for not phoning it in. Thank you for showing up and still giving it your all. And thank you for continuing to be the Lady Dragon we all fell in love with.
Final verdict: 9/10 stars - a powerful return that doesn't rely on the past but earns every minute of the present.

I bought it on Amazon Prime on the first day. Loved it! Going to rewatch this weekend. Will definitely buy the blue ray when it gets released. I have to comment on the cinematography... It's beautiful! It stands up to any Hollywood blockbuster and shows what dedication and spirit can produce without an astronomical budget. Thank you and your team for all of the hard work!
Cynthia Rothrock is a martial arts legend. Her characters have always been a step above the average in such films. I'm really impressed by her acting skills in this. The whole cast adds a gravitas to what could be just another martial arts film.
Wonderful fighting scenes, but I was also emotionally engaged with the story.
Well done!
