We've Only Just Begun

I'm not super invested in any of the characters or stories so far. There weren't any clever lines in the script or moments that really resonated with me, like some of the last few seasons.

I also felt the women weren't portrayed as strongly as previously. It's fine they show vulnerability, but it was almost all of them needing the guys to prop them up eg Jo and Link, then in the ambulance, Teddy's operation - come on - would it really only be the male surgeons that xan keep it together, and Teddy's story too. It grated on me. Having women that were slaying it was empowering and has been one of the greatest aspects of the show.

There were too many spoilers were on social media so the element of surprise was totally gone when I watched this episode. I didn't get that emotional punch which some previous Grey's stories have done exceptionally well.

I was thrilled GA is back. It's a pair of comfortable old shoes that I can't bear to throw away, but the magic has gone. I did enjoy some of the last few seasons.

I binge watched over several months the last 5 years after not watching it forever. Some were must see and I couldn't help wanting more now and then.

I realise that when they get enough medical drama in rather than go heavy on the personal lives, it works better. My mind just starts wandering and I get bored, I do the dishes and skip bits, especially where there's quite a few characters I'm not fussed about.

They've written out most of the characters I got attached to. It's a shame, as it is characters which really are the beating heart of it. The mega memorable ones who we grew to love is what made this show so amazing.

I will keep watching it, but I do feel sad that it's nowhere near the outstanding drama it once was.

This episode shows that after a long break and a change in leadership, the show may be returning to a similar quality of its early seasons. The storytelling in this episode was significantly better compared to seasons 17-19. There were still a couple plot holes in one of the more dramatic scenes, but it was nothing overly important. I didn't even notice them when I watched the first time. The new dynamic with Bailey and the interns which was teased at the end of the episode as well as Meredith and Amelia's new secret mission left me excited for the rest of the season. As if the storytelling wasn't enough, the directing, cinematography, and acting all seemed to improve.

Lookit, if after 19 seasons you are coming to Grey's Anatomy for a reality based drama about surgeons, you need to consider your life choices.

Interns running rampant and uncontrolled! Not a nurse to be seen in an ICU room. Professions of love, hate, love-hate delivered by beautiful looking people in either life or death hospital areas, or gorgeously decorated homes.

And robo cars running amok, threatening lives and limbs. It wouldn't be Greys without something seriously out of left field, providing an opportunity for a very quick discussion on the role of AI devices in society.

This is why we watch it. The acting is fantastic- the actors absolutely are committed to the insane story lines. And by trusting the writers, many of the characters have been given opportunities to truly change and grow organically. Richard's latest brush with losing his sobriety reminds us all of the daily struggle for addicts. Greys has stayed true to that story for 2 decades.

Anyway, it was alway for far too long and I'm delighted they haven't messed with the format.

This episode of greys was on a level of quality that I feel we haven't seen in a hot minute. The writing is really strong especially the pacing the episode is jumping from scene to scene, sequence to sequence seamlessly. All characters have something to do and all the actors give it their all. It also feels like the budget has increased as the show feels on a larger scale whether or not that's the case it was nice to see either way. I really enjoyed this episode and it felt like old greys this is making me really hopeful for season 20 and whatever comes after the fact. All the actors really do a good job and the ending was an amazing throw back.
