The third series of Only Murders in the Building quickly went off the boil. The sleuthing seems to have taken a back seat.

This is a return to form of a sort as the trio have split up over arguments and recriminations.

With Charles out from the musical. Oliver needs to find a replacement but all of them are unsuitable. Cliff one of the producers calls in a favour. It is Matthew Broderick who is keen on the role. Charles is unhappy to lose a role to Broderick again, the previous time it was for Ferris Bueller. Broderick reminds Charles that he was 41 years old at the time.

Oliver learns from Mel Brooks not to listen to any ideas from Broderick.

It is Mabel investigating Ben's murder who figures that his brother Dickie might be a suspect.

This episode was playful and fun. Might be too little a little too late. A sign that there was not enough story here for a 10 part series.

The first couple of seasons were good. The third season has become painfully boring. Every once in a while there is a funny line. The show tries too hard to be humorous. It is a beautiful apartment building, so that part is interesting to watch. Everybody watches it now just to see Selena Gomez or the special guests. Glad to at least see acting legends like Meryl Streep and Mathew Broderick.

I liked the over all temper of this episode. We had several elements. Charles is pouting and wanting to get back but his pride won't let him. So who steps in to take his place--Matthew Broderick. It's interesting the way the show incorporates cameos of real people and has them play off the regulars. I mean, Meryl Streep isn't Meryl Streep as a character but rather Loretta. Anyway, Broderick was really funny as he tries to overanalyze everything Oliver is doing. I heard tell that Dustin Hoffman does that in anything he appears in and drives directors mad. I guess if you're a great actor, you can pull that off. But the strength of this one is that is some real detective work going on. I also liked the return of Uma, who is a great character. Her encounter with Charles in the diner was wonderful. She is about as salty as she can be. Mabel is showing her chops as she analyzes things. I now look forward to the final three offerings.

We are finally back to the building, sleuthing and the podcast. We also have a guest star making appearance. Mabel is back to full investigation and by the end of the episode,Oliver and Charles also realise they want to be part of it. The podcast is back without the two gentlemen. It's nice to see a flashback of Bunny and Uma, Bunny despite her complaints was a very likeable character.

The guest star Mathew Broderick was funny and leads to Charles and Oliver bonding again and a move to join Mabel.

I think the next episodes will be good with the focus on the case. I hope Tina Fey has much more to do than the one scene in one episode. Theo is back, would be nice to have the Alice Banks character also. I think she had more chemistry with Mabel than Tobert.
