Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night

I am not an avid anime watcher, so I was hesitant to pick this up at first, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The story follows four late teen girls who form a band. The girls become close friends and work to not only achieve a shared goal, but also support each other emotionally as they overcome personal obstacles.

The first half of the series is really gripping and exciting, but it becomes uninteresting in the second half.

This was a refreshing series to watch. I know this may seem obvious to some, but not everybody is aware of the talented people who work on these series.

With that said, I think that if you have a friend who is not really interested in anime, but you want to introduce them to it, this may be a good gateway series for them. It is nowhere near perfect, but it does illustrate that anime series can have the same subject matter as any live action show, it is just done using a different medium.

Well, this was the most surprising anime for me, this spring. It impacted me the most in terms of emotions and inspired me the most as well.

At its core, this is a story about creators dealing with criticism and freeing their creativity. It's a story about expressing yourself. It's about being alienated in your life, being different from others. It's about gaining confidence from that difference. Personally, I'm always touched and inspired by stories like this. They hold a special place in my heart. And I love it when they have a creative staff at the helm, as if to prove that they stand by this theme. Because the direction for this anime is brilliant. It's different, innovative and it's able to deliver some gut-punching emotional sequences. Both the animation and soundtrack are pretty good too. I'm so happy for studio Doga Kobo. I've been following their works from before they got famous with Oshi No Ko.

What also made this show so great were the characters. All 4 main characters are well-realised. They all get their moments to shine. I was deeply impacted by each of their character stories. Given that these characters meet and bond with each other within 12 episodes, a common mistake made by shows is that I don't buy the bond between them as it was formed so quickly. But this anime did it pretty much perfectly. The bonds between these characters are formed very naturally and I cared about them.

I do think this show is imperfect at places though. I absolutely loved like 90% of the show. But there's like 10% of the show that I really didn't like. First and the most major of all - the fan service. It's just totally unnecessary and somewhat infuriating at times (yes episode 7, I'm talking about you). I don't understand why the anime doesn't respect the characters that it itself has written so well. Secondly I think there are a few ends that weren't explored that well (Kana and her mother's conclusion for instance). So the story could've been longer.

But overall, I thought this anime was brilliant and no other anime (except for Delicious In Dungeon) came close for me this season.

This is a show for the outsiders. The people who are told they aren't people. Those with a bitter taste in their mouth and a hope that the world would be better.

It's about music, direction in life, connection, mistakes, and the concept of the self.

(real and idealized, or idealized until it becomes real.)

I do agree the ending was a bit rushed.

But I loved it.

It is riddled with ties to queer culture, however it is mostly hidden in the background.. unless you pay attention, you might miss what is right in front of you. But I think it's a pretty blatant. From the lesbians to the trans alagory (for multiple characters. Not just one) it may not have been allowed. But it was very much the focus of the story.

This is a story for The Rotten Ones. The Others.

This is a catastrophe that leaves viewers questioning the very fabric of reality. This takes a seemingly interesting concept and turns it into an excruciatingly tiresome and overhyped ordeal that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. This is a waste of time and money

If you want another show of girl on girl romance from a music this is for you. This show doing well is nothing more than that. Appeasing activists who lost literacy skills of what makes a good story. Spammed every season like a new call of duty game. Skip this. This is not anime of the year. Ths is not anime of the season. If you want this story to be good, make a AAA game out of it.

Tbh... Im surprised... I didnt have food tought about It before watching it... But wow, i was wrong.

This Is a master piece from the beggining to the end, i find every character perfectly balanced and well done, especcially Kano.

Reletable anime and an Ocean of emoticons.

Tbh i Wish there was more about Kano and Mahiru, but again the anime was Just perfect.

Lots of people hate on It, bit i dont care.

You should Watch this now if you havent, and i honestly Hope for a season 2 One day.

I think It was really complete, i didnt have questions once finished the show, everything was well explained, and wasnt rushed like some others anime of the same gente.
