The creative forces behind Strang New Worlds they are masters in "borrowing" stories.
They steal plots from other movies & other series (sci-fi or not), other Star Trek series and mainly TOS.
This shows how much weak they are, either in their writing skills or the risks they could take to write something new or at least more original. But then, they would not had made a prequel.
And now they are ready to click on the Big Reset Button (worse part of the episode).
In any case, this wasn't such a bad episode, and even if it was narrating an unoriginal story it could have been much much better.
It is very annoying how they have Ortegas talk, constantly expressing her thoughts using 20-21th century expressions.
But even more annoying is the inconsistency in Enterprise's officers behavior. When their loved ones are in danger they have no problem put ship and crew in peril. But poor Ortegas...

This is probably the best episode so far of Season 3. Good themes, some interesting ideas and not too much of the humour that has spoiled a lot of SNW of late. This one seems to have a little more faith in the ideas and execution than more recent episodes. However, Ortega constantly speaking her thoughts gets very annoying. It's like the writers and director felt they needed spell out every single moment rather than thinking the audience might actually be able to work it out for themselves! But explaining everything aside, it's a much better effort all round. Looking forward to the season finale next week!
I really appreciated how this episode showed how well Ortega can act and I love enemy mine soooo this was perfect. I agree there have been some off episodes this particular season but I still have love for the crew and I really wish they would extend the series even longer. I have always been a Star Trek fan and I try to recognize it's for entertainment to take us away from the madness of the world for a little bit and some people are really too serious about it.
Lt. Erica Ortegas finally gets the spotlight she deserves, and the result is nothing short of exceptional. Melissa Navia brings her to life with striking humanity, humor, and pathos. The script and direction stand among the finest that Star Trek has offered in years, delivering both tension and heart. By the closing moments, I found myself unexpectedly moved. It has left a far deeper impact than I anticipated. This is top-tier Star Trek.
Episode pitch meeting:
Let's take a Star Trek TOS episode, replace Kirk, (a male) with a female (or?), replace the male Gorn with a female Gorn, instead of having a mortal combat scenario, put a "Mine Ememy" buddy twist on it and in the end have a "Empire of the Sun", kill my enemy, who is now my friend, who loves airplanes just like me.
Perfect! Do it!
Oh and make the Metrons bald.
