Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a 2.5D side-scrolling action-adventure platform video game. It has been released in the winter of 2024 for macOS, Nintendo Switch, Playstation4, Playstation 5, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. This release has come as a decent surprise since the legendary franchise has been mostly dormant for almost a decade and a half. This new game aims to get support from old fans and complete newcomers alike. The final result is however a mixed bag.

Let's take a quick look at the story. This game introduces us to a new hero named Sargon who is a member of a powerful warrior clan. He travels to the cursed city of Mount Qaf to save kidnapped Prince Ghassan. He has to find numerous secrets, fight dangerous opponents and activate mechanisms to discover the different parts of the city.

On the positive side, it's great to finally get a new installment in the franchise after so many years of disappointing dormancy. Up next, the different sections of the cursed city are truly intriguing. Players get to explore sinister caverns, huge open spaces and mysterious towers. Opponents can be dangerous animals, creepy creatures and human beings alike. Despite a simplistic 2.5D format, the graphics look colourful, diversified and inspired throughout. The challenges in this game are of moderate to difficult levels. Some sections can be completed in a few minutes by experienced gamers while others might take a few hours to be solved. Controls are usually relatively simple to handle. There are numerous training grounds to help old and new players practise combat skills. Players can also get access to helpful goods increasing your health and strengthening your weapons.

On the negative side, it's hard to empathise with a completely new character who is barely introduced in this platforming game. The story is also as generic as it gets and missing any significant depth. After a thrilling exposition, the game falls flat when platforming takes over. Some of the challenges become time-consuming and thus frustrating for players who aren't used to them. That wasn't the case for most past installments in the franchise, except for the very first two games from the late eighties and early nineties. Players need to bring much experience, patience and time to enjoy this new entry to its fullest.

To keep it short, it's pleasant for fans of old date to finally get a new installment in the legendary Prince of Persia franchise that has been existing for more than three and a half decades by now. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown convinces with interesting settings, challenging opponents and relatively simple control mechanics. This game however suffers from at times frustrating challenges, unconvincing new characters and weak plot development. To keep it simple, this game is only recommended to adamant fans of the franchise while everyone else can stick to similar games such as the entries in the Assassin's Creed franchise.

I honestly came into this title without high expectations, I've played all the assasins creed side scrollers and was underwhelmed by each entry, But this..This game is something completely different.

You can tell right off the bat when you start that love and care for the property was put into this and it's not just a simple cash grab based on name sake alone, The combat is fast and fluid with the prince acrobatic moves very much in effect just in a 2D playing field. You don't start super weak and slow and have to work your way up, You start decent with some knowledge and experience under your belt, And through this HUGE open metroidvania world you discover many Secrets, Trinkets, Add ons (power ups), and so forth. The story is a simple one, I won't do any spoilers but it's simple. It's a bit more eloquent then save the princess but not by much more, The meat of the game here lies in the gameplay department.

The graphics are nothing crazy, Early ps4 era visuals on the characters themselves along with terrible lip synching, But the beautiful and lush environments that you traverse along the way, The playing field is really REALLY big. It's not overly complicated unless you want to find all the secrets and so forth, And all the challenge that prince of Persia brings with platforming, jumps, pole swinging..it's ALL still here and it works so much better than you think in 2D. Honestly this game is a love letter to fans and deserves nothing by the highest praise especially coming from a publisher which rarely takes risks and usually plays it on the safe side with their titles. If you're on the fence about it, TRUST me this is 100% worth the asking price of $50. Deluxe edition are cosmetics and 1 power up that is cool but nothing to write home about, The standard version is just fine. If it weren't for the dated graphics and weird voice/facial animations this would be a 10, As a critic I have to knock it down a point in that department..But apart from cosmetically flawed EVERYTHING else is brimming with life and deserves nothing but the highest praise, Bravo team, Bravo. 9 out of 10 - Magnificent-

The PoP franchise was known amd loved for its trilogy and to that trilogy owes its existence. Ubisoft chose for to make a PoP game that fans waited for so long and decide to make a metroidvania style probably because its kore easy to make and cheaper ( though i might be wrong ) and not a adventure hack n slash game.

Also the protagonist is not the prince of persia but some travis scot asap rocky looking dude coz its ubisoft and the protag must always represent modern BS.

People who say that this game is good and is going back to its roots probably don't like prince of persia Why?? Well 1)the old PoP games were kot so good that is why the trilogy was loved and is not forgotten till this day.

2)the third person hck n slash puzzle adventure style that was outstanding 3)the arabian setup and not this whatever style this game has.

I know that the stuff i said probably won't be liked by everyone but it is the truth, when people heard a new PoP game was in the making all of them and i mean all of them were expecting a trilogy style prince of persia and not this abomination and now some people who likes metroidvania are defending this game like there not enough metroidvania style games, i mean there are more metroidvania style games more than there were back in nes and they still give us cr@p , with the new technology on consoles we would expect more games like PoP and GoD third person games but with better graphics and all we have is 100 FPS games that are the same and metroidvania games as far as the eye can see Anyway that's all I have to say.
