The Book of Quinn

This is the first tile ever I feel compelled to write a review on IMDB and unfortunately it is a negative one. I watched season 1 of the Silo twice, as I wanted to dig deep into the storyline and into the characters. I found it well written, subtle and captivating. I got so excited when the first episode of season 2 was announced, and liked how it replanted the scene and launched new dynamics. But since the second episode, I increasingly feel like the only objective of this season's script is to drag things out at the low cost possible in order to fill out the next seasons that have been secured. Run up the stairs, run down the stairs, dive in the water, almost drown, pull out of the water, over and over again, interspersed with repetitive one to one conversations with heavy stares leading nowhere. One can predict the next interactions by identifying permutations that have not been tried yet. The "cliffhangers" are obvious and unimaginative, and new characters are only introduced to justify the future repetition of the same scenarios. I did not read the books, and now I do not want to. I lost all curiosity for this show, and have decided to give up on the weekly Silo episode. Might binge on the last episodes on a boring sleepless night in the coming months. Or not. What a disappointment.

Love this show, but there is a limit. Did suddenly the power go out everywhere? Why would you make an episode so dark you can't even see what's happening? I stopped watching and just started listening after a while because there just wasn't anything worth looking at. There are only a few scenes where there was enough light. To top it off, this episode just didn't move the story along. There was a little bit of character development and a lot of darkness. You could practically skip this episode and miss nothing. Probably the worst episode in this entire series. I like this show, but please do better.

A couple of episodes in Season 1 kind of had bad pacing, but they were still decent, and I enjoyed it.

But Season 2 is something else, absolutely dreadful. Episodes have terrible pacing, most characters are dumb and useless, the (many) new characters are completely irrelevant, the subplots are pointless and just keep repeating themselves over and over in the most boring way possible.

And the editing is just abysmal. It's hard to see what is on the screen, with every episode getting darker and darker for some reason. Episode 10 will probably be a black screen with background audio. And the way the scenes are put together makes no sense. "Oh, are you enjoying this part of the plot? Then you will get to watch 10 seconds of it every 5 minutes in between poorly written and pointless conversations from random characters." You could put everything that has happened in this season in a single episode, and the rest is just filler.

And this episode is the breaking point for me. It's the first episode I couldn't get through without fast-forwarding a bunch of times. It is just bad. The plots have not progressed whatsoever. It's just characters doing the same thing they have been doing for the past few episodes, with no outcome other than another cliffhanger. I will watch the last two episodes of the season, but I am not coming back for Season 3.

The Book of Quinn tries to deepen the mystery of the Silo, but it stumbles in execution. The pacing is all over the place dragging through unimportant details while rushing through key moments that deserved more attention.

The episode sidelines main characters like Juliette and Lukas, leaving their stories feeling incomplete and disconnected. Instead of building tension, it spends too much time on vague, cryptic elements without delivering anything meaningful.

Visually, the show's trademark atmosphere starts to feel stale here, especially with the repetitive and overly dim scenes in Silo 17. On top of that, some of the plot twists rely on lazy conveniences rather than clever storytelling, which is disappointing for a series that usually excels at creating suspense.

This episode feels like filler, lacking the depth or excitement fans expect. It's more frustrating than intriguing and falls far short of Silo's usual standards.

The one thing Silo does not need is more youthful actors added to the roster. Sadly however, it seems the show-runners are doing just that. I did not read the novel so I'm not sure if its the result of creative liberty or a poorly written reveal.

My gut feeling however cannot be denied, Silo must not go the route of The 100. Not only would that alienate the audience from the more serious tone of the series but it would greatly detract from the already gripping cast.

Season 2 was off to a great start, with some interesting reveals scattered throughout the episodes since its beginning, including this one. Unfortunately, as the season rolled on, too little is being done to actually move the plot forward and uninteresting bland characters are being focused on, particularly in this episode.
