A crazy mixed up comedy for fun viewing

The plot in brief is as follows. During their honeymoon a young couple decides in fun to record their private moments in a video CD. To their bad luck it gets stolen causing embarrassment to all. As a cop starts investigating it sets off a chain of anxious and amusing events. Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri play the couple. The movie itself tries to position itself as a full fledged comic caper and almost succeeds. There are a number of hilarious scenes and amusing gags. All characters are caricatures with varying degrees of craziness. An ensemble of comedians like Rakesh Bedi, Archana Puran Singh, Tiku Tilsania, Mukesh Tiwari,Ashwini Kalsekar and Vijay Raaz go all out to create comic situations which are entertaining no doubt. Vijay Raaz once again plays a crazy cop who investigates the case of the missing CD with laughable results.

Director Raaj Shaandilya has made it an entertaining comedy with no questions to be asked on the credibility of the situations. The characters are over the top, crazy and loud most of the time and there are a few raunchy scenes too. The movie is patterned that way. There are references to songs of the past and there is a remix too with Daler Mehndi. All told it provides escapist entertaininment.

It's a decent watch for the sake of time-pass...

I observed lots of mixed reviews from the audiences as well as from the critics yet went for it because of it's strong starcast and good film makers name associated with it. In simple terms I can consider it as a decent one time watch kind of comedy which is worth watching in my personal view.

The Acting performances of both leading characters were superb and all other supportive characters also played their parts brilliantly. Rajkumar as Vicky is totally suitable for such kind of roles. His way of talking, comic timings and actions while portraying his funky roles were hilarious to watch. Tripti Dimri was damn adorable in this entire movie and played her part decently. Leading character's parents were also hilarious to watch with their funky roles. But The Show Stealer performance was given by Vijay Raj here. Hands down! It was his best work in recent times. His style, action, comic timing and so called romance in this movie definitely outplayed Rajkumar's character for sure. Even his chemistry with Mallika Shehrawat was also damn better than our leading characters.

Storyline of this movie was very short and extremely short forward. 90s songs were very well attached according to the situations but other songs were average in this movie. The runtime is also little bit dragged I guess, I mean in the beginning of this movie they could have been trimmed down the story a little bit. And of course the climax story, Ohh man! That was completely out of plot, they just adjusted it little bit to get mixed with the main plot and of course some unnecessary melodramatic dialogue deliveries, not that suitable for all kind of audiences.

Overall a decent watch, if you want to spend your boring time with a fresh comedy movie. From my side it will be 6 out of 10 Stars for it and I will consider it as 90% safe to watch with family, but beware of some double meaning cringe dialogues and 2/3 soft makeout scene..That's it...

This movie would have been bad in the 90's

Overview: The type of movie that Hindi Cinema should have left behind in this day and age. Full of implausible scenarios, overacting, and no real attention paid to plot.

Plot: Set in 1997, the story is interesting enough with Vicky and Vidya a young couple looking to recover the CD on which they filmed an adult video of themselves. They get themselves into completely ridiculous scenarios. The main issue plot wise is that random things keep happening that were not mentioned before. For example, the main villain does not appear until 2/3 the way through, and we don't know the context for which they are there. Also there is an element of horror which totally doesn't fit the rest of the plot and just seems to be there for some random multiverse situation.

Acting: The acting is fine with decent performances by both Rajkummar Rao and Tripti Dimri. The script was terrible so not much that they could do with it. The rest of the cast is fine as well nothing much to report on.

Music: Music is ok with one very good song Mere Mehboob playing during the credits as an item number.

Conclusion: Not even worth a watch on OTT platforms. Give this one a miss.

AVG Film by Hit Ya Flop - Movie World

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is a film that starts with promise but fizzles out due to weak storytelling and direction. It tries to be a complete fun entertainer but falls short of delivering a consistently entertaining experience. While it starts off on a high note with funny dialogues and one-liners, the film suffers from a lack of story and a sloppy screenplay, making it a tale of two halves-one that entertains and one that irritates. The makers' attempt to include horror-comedy scenes, especially the homage to the hit film "Stree," was a major letdown. What should have been a clever nod turned out to be a sequence that didn't quite fit and left the audience disappointed.

Writer-director Raj Shandilya, who made a name for himself with comedy hits like "Dream Girl" and "Dream Girl 2," demonstrates his knack for humor in the first half of this film. The opening half is a riot-every joke lands, the punchlines hit the mark. The dialogue is sharp, and the chemistry between the lead characters is fun to watch. However, the fun doesn't last long. As soon as the second half begins, the film loses its charm. The plot centers around the search for 'that CD,' but after a while, this chase becomes repetitive and boring. The film could have easily been cut by 15 minutes with some tighter editing.

Rajkummar Rao shines in the comic sequences, his impeccable timing elevating the humor. Triptii Dimri supports him well, but her character feels underdeveloped. She had the potential for more, but the script fails to give her enough depth. One of the brighter spots in the film is Mallika Sherawat, making a brilliant comeback. Vijay Raaz and Tiku Talsania, did their best to inject life into their roles and bringing genuine laughs. Rakesh Bedi and Archana Patel are terrific in their respective roles. It's a treat to see Mast Ali, famous for his Hyderabadi comedy films, in a Hindi movie. He adds a unique flavor to the comedy. However, even all these strong performance can't save the film from its weak narrative.

Raaj Shandilyaa's Over The Top Comedy is Low On Substance

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video (2024) : Movie Review -

Raaj Shaandilyaa is definitely losing his touch, and the statement becomes more relevant when you see films like Janhit Mein Jaari, Luv Ki Arrange Marriage, Dream Girl 2, and now Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. What must be the reason? The forced comedy remains the constant factor here. Apparently, these films somehow tried to tackle sensitive social issues, which I believe Raaj should stop doing at once. Let's stick to the comedy and make a good comedy; forget the social awareness and family problems. People come to cinemas to enjoy comedies, not to see their sensitive issues getting brutally trolled on the screen. Not everyone can be Rajkumar Hirani, and even a great filmmaker like him has failed recently with Dunki; then Raaj Shandilyaa is way behind.

Set in Rishikesh in 1997, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video has a mehndi designer, Vicky (Rajkummar Rao), who is in love with Vidya (Tripti Dimri). By hook or crook, they manage to get married by creating a solid drama that looks very childish on the screen. Instead of Vaishnodevi, they decide to go to Goa for their honeymoon, and there they have this crazy idea of shooting a video of their sexual encounter. After returning home, the CD of their video gets stolen by a thief, and the couple sees trouble calling in the future. To avoid that, they must find the CD, but is it that easy? Find out the answer in the movie.

The film is written by Raaj Shaandilyaa only, so I'll take him responsible for all the goods and bads. First goods: This is an out-and-out comedy right from the beginning scene till the last one. Every single scene has been designed to create comedy and laughter. Now negatives: This is actually a forced comedy and looks very kiddish on many occasions. I personally think that this Western idea of making a honeymoon video was the worst selling point for the film. By calling it 97% parivarik, you are actually keeping 97% of the family audience away because any film with a sexual encounter's reference cannot appeal to the family audiences who like to watch the film together, especially with the kids. Raaj's screenplay is full of cringe scenes and Facebook post jokes that I used to read a decade ago during college days. Many of them became WhatsApp forwards later, but Raaj is too late to take them as the main reference point in the film. The film suffers from a poor plot and weak screenplay.

Rajkummar Rao is one of the finest actors of Bollywood from a young lot (his generation), but movies and roles like these don't do justice to his talent. He was fine in Srikanth this year, but the direction was flawed. He was decent in Stree 2, which wasn't an acting-driven role but survived due to the presence of a better director. Now here, he lacks both. Tripti Dimri can never be considered a good actress with such glamorous and stamp paper roles. I'd like to see her gorgeous face again and again, but not if she is not doing justice to the "actor" in her. For that, she must continue doing Bulbull and Qala. Vijay Raaz brings a few laughs, and Mallika Sherawat looks hot throughout the film, but these two could have been provided with better dialogues and characteristics. Archana Puran Singh and Mukesh Tiwari are loud and annoying; Tiku Talsania saves the day; Ashwini Kalsekar goes wild and over the top; Mast Ali, Kaveri Jha, and the rest of the supporting cast couldn't do anything noticeable. Shehnaaz Gill raises temperature with her cameo in a badly remade song.

VVKWWV has technical flaws as well, but I think it hardly matters in genres like comedy. The cinematography was decent, the editing was below average as it couldn't hold me for two and a half hours, the background score was too typical, like a TV sitcom, and the production design was fairly decent. The music doesn't help here except that the songs are visually appealing. It lacks a chartbuster for sure. A few dialogues are very funny, while the rest of them look forced and artificial. "Baat baat pe maarti hai, shaadi karke biwi laya hun ya Ajay Devgn"-these kinds of dialogue would definitely make you laugh. However, the forced humor and screenplay will annoy you. What was the need of Stree's spoof? Was there any need for chaotic mess in the ending? The film could have been wrapped within two hours, but this extra half an hour is what caused its downfall. Raaj Shandilyaa should start writing original jokes now because the internet has made these standup comedies, one-liners, and WhatsApp/Facebook forwards much more viral in today's time than they were before the pandemic. And most importantly, stop forcing comedy and PJs in every single scene. It looks tiresome in an hour or so. In short, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is low on substance and high on childish jokes.

    • Trivia
Upon its theatrical release, the film featured a scene where a ghost character from the movie franchise Stree makes an appearance. This inclusion led to the director, Raaj Shaandilyaa, having to issue an apology to the creators of Stree for the unauthorised use of the character. Furthermore the scene was deleted for the home video release of the film.
    • Errores
Events in the movie occur during 1997/98. However some of the songs used in background are from movies released in the 2000s. For example the song Ishq Samundar is from Kaante (2002) and Khoobsurat's (1999) song Mein Chaand Hoga is playing in the wedding scene.
