These are not survival experts. They are spoiled 21st century families who want to experience life on the frontier. Yes there are cringey moments where reality sets in but the majority of first two episodes are honestly good and I will watch the rest of the season. It's Alaska the last frontier meets keeping up with the kardashians. It's nice to see the kids away from technology and learn how to survive on their own with limited resources. Something in my opinion every kid should learn. The fact that they have two experts ready and available to give knowledge to these 21st century families makes it that more intriguing.
Truly enjoyed the first episode. I love that they do it solely for the satisfaction of knowing what life was like during that time and it was anything but easy. It will give them an appreciation for what they have. 1) these are all well off families, it needs to be more diverse rather than families with money. Yes there is a gay couple with a child, and African American family and a white family BUT look at where they live and all they have and how spoiled they all are. What about the average person who has to figure out how to eat, pay bills and make their own repairs to their homes who knows what it's like to not have money or privilege.
2) these family are given instructions, living during those times people had NO instructions. Why are they given books to tell them what to do. It's common sense to know what you have to do to survive.
3) these families are given things that most didn't have back then. Most didn't have meat or beans in a can. They had dried beans and had to slaughter their own animals and hunt for meat.
If this show comes back that would be great but needs to be more realistic true to times.

I'll start by saying I'd never do this. And for those that expected the producers to be homophobic, shame on you.
That said, the first episode was enlightening. Each family has their own strengths and struggles. It is odd that they didn't research what a family needed or did during that time. Although I'd never do this, I would've looked I to that.
I don't like that the homesteads are broken and missing walls etc. I think that was unfair. And I'm hoping they were given a means to purchase goods or barter.
I'm going to stick with this as all three families are interesting. I hope they all succeed but my money is in the Lopers as their kids seem to get it and want to help.

I think the 1st episode was perfect! This shows how the families were before going to the frontier. I cannot wait to see what else is in store. This show may not be for everyone but my family loved it! You can learn how to cook, live and survive. No one knows what the future holds. Would love 2 episodes a week. But I guess I will have to settle for the 1. I think the Hayes family will make it pretty far. Working together as a little town and helping each other out will also make each family make it further.
I am hoping to see employment opportunities for families that were back then and how they bathe as well.

The kids of the 2 gay guys are clearly ADHD or perhaps on the spectrum or have some other developmental issues. Early intervention might help and clearly, these kids need some major intervention.. The loper mom is beyond ridiculous. She cries all the time and comes across as uneducated but entitled with some make believe accent and a mentality that I don't know who could understand . She also made that ridiculous comment about driving up the auction price for the other family. How nasty can one educated individual be? Wowzer, I just can't stand her. She needs a major overhaul.
¿Sabías que…?
- TriviaIn 2002, PBS did a similar series called Frontier House...it even had similar families that participated
