Probably the biggest slump in quality that I have seen for Netflix show I'm interested in. The first season of The Night Agent is dumb, but also entertaining thanks to it's twisty plot.
Season 2 has absolutely no twists, nothing that will surprise you throughout the entirety of it's run time.
I understand why shows like The Night Agent exists. Turn your brain off type of entertainment is good fun after a long day, but The Night Agent never finds a good tone. The Show is always so over the top that it's impossible to turn your brain off and give into the suspension of disbelief. This problem is exasperated because there is NO humor in the entirety of season 2. Everything in season 2 is played deathly serious, yet everything I'm watching is unconvincing. This creates an uneven tone that deeply effects any entertainment value.
The writers also commit the cardinal sin of having zero character development for the main cast. Rose is the worst victim of the writers. Buchanan's performance is not bad by any means, but her character is incredibly frustrating. Rose is a plot device in season 2. All she does is create situations where peter has to save her, or she hypocritically judges everyone else because the writers probably think they made her so moral savoir. It is exhausting watching Rose.
Season 2 is a giant waste of time.

I thought that if Rose wasn't in this season it wouldn't have worked but her being in season 2 was the absolute worst thing. She wanted to go back to California many times and they should have sent her back. Please don't include her if there's another season. She really doesn't have nothing to do with a night agent. The first episode of season 2 was great after that it took a turn for the worst. I'm not sure how Rose gets to make a lot of decisions when she doesn't have any training. Oh and the subtitles throughout the whole season was obnoxious having to read a lot during the whole season. I didn't like having to read so much.
With the finale out of the way, the less insane heads of netflix have to be experiencing a severe case of buyers remorse on this show which has been a bit of a rollercoaster.
1st season wasn't terrible, it had a softcore 48 hours feel to it, whilst subtly propagandizing for the intelligence services as the good guys.. we swear.. unless we're selling each other out because LOL, just for the LOL's.
But at least it wasn't overly political.. Season 2.. oh.... oh my... this mess of a story, as the shadow of the great orange Hagen man leering in the background, like the unknowable unfathomable evil destined to be the great Thanos of season 3, because orange man is so so bad.
Apart from that, it follows the netflix standard of introducing a heroic male character you're rooting for, mostly, and then in 2nd season he plays 2nd fiddle to an increasingly diverse cast that exists solely to rescue him, over and over and over and over again, all exhibiting all the joy a hostage that has been coerced into being there at gunpoint. The only slight exception is Noor, who was at least an interesting character.
Might I suggest that the Season 3 episode 1 be named: " Ad Nauseam ". To reflect where this sham of a show is going.

One of the worst written action, adventure series I have ever seen. There is no suspension of disbelief. It's completely unbelievable. The characters are so bad. The Boyscout theme of the good guy never kills the bad guy on purpose is so demeaning to the character. An unbelievable tale, with unbelievably bad acting. The main male character talks like he has a perpetual wad of tobacco in his lower lip. Truly a waste of time and disrespectful to the action genre. The female lead is more of a bad ass than the male night agent. His character is so bad, he should be brought up on charges of treason. The characters and their actions are completely unbelievable. AI could write a better script and should.
A good season overall for what it's worth and really entertaining for what it was written for with many dedications, faulty research and writing along the way. Shared diluted similarities with '24' and 'Homeland' with good acting though by seasoned actors.
The super cringe as in season 1 was Rose, the one person who shouldn't have been chosen at all for that role, let alone her "Skrull" disguises as love interest, IT genius, wannabe chemist and clearances gotten from a specialized store.
Would love her to leave Peter alone to live his Night Agent life with another girl the type of a young Sophie Marceau.
