This is such a fantastic story. Super creative and modern, with elements of social media and sci-fi, and the theme of "filters" which is super relevant to our time as something that people are increasingly obsessed about, but interpreted in a way that drives the whole story forward with mystique and the encounters between MMC and FMC.
The cast delivers a solid performance as well that really pulls you in. The chemistry between Tan Jianci and Li Landi is perfect and the banters between them, and mutual scheming is chef's kiss. Jianci is such an amazing actor who honestly just makes every character his own, and it's not exception in this drama, where he plays Tang Qi, a cosmetics phD who is as adorable as he is strategic, but struggles with an sensory overload eye condition. I loveeeed him in this role and it's refreshing to see him play such a unique modern character just as fascinating as Xiang Liu in Chang Xiang Si and Shen Yi in Under the Skin.
Cannot wait to see how the drama and major secret that FMC has been keeping from him be dissolved in the upcoming episodes! The plot continues to deliver, and I can't help but want to find out what happens next already.
The background of the story is set within a cosmetic start up company, and the working culture and everything is very believable also, and definitely will be relatable to anyone who's worked in branding & marketing before. I also really liked the worldbuilding of this drama, where other characters have a full personality that gets to be expressed as well throughout the show, so no character falls flat and is rendered as someone that just passes by. Even FMC's sister has a commanding presence, and so is her friend Lin Yuan.
Honestly can't fault this and so glad to come along such an amazing an entrancing show, with a really wild spin on sci-fi in a very mundane way - not on grandiose concepts like interstellar travel or transhumanism, but something much more toned down, but is a genius play on the classic trope of shapeshifting in modern times with help of technology. The science is not the focus in this drama, but it really enhances the plot and I find the way how it is interpreted to be believable.
Recommend everyone who loves a good romance with just as much mystery / detective flair to watch this drama. It won't disappoint.

Overall, The Filter is a heartwarming and entertaining drama that encourages self-acceptance. If you enjoy unique stories with a mix of romance and humor, this is worth watching.
Tang Qi is a dedicated scientist-intelligent, kind, but socially awkward. He approaches life with logic, yet when it comes to love, he is clumsy and sincere. Tan CianJi delivers a charming and refreshing performance, making Tang Qi a lovable and memorable character. His interactions are both humorous and touching, adding depth to the story.
Tang Qi - A Unique Male Lead
Tang Qi is not your typical romantic hero. He is a brilliant scientist, deeply passionate about his work, yet socially awkward and inexperienced in relationships. Unlike many male leads who are confident and charismatic, Tang Qi is thoughtful, a bit clumsy in love, and genuinely kind. His character is well-developed, making him relatable and refreshing.
TAN does an excellent job portraying Tang Qi's quirks and depth. He balances the character's intelligence with an endearing innocence, especially in his interactions with Suo Zhangzhang. His awkward yet sincere approach to love makes for many heartwarming and humorous moments. Unlike cold, overbearing male leads often seen in dramas, Tang Qi is warm, caring, and emotionally open, which sets him apart.

I thought the actor who played the FL was exactly right for the part-she was cute though not spectacularly pretty. But she came across as strong, energetic, and a fighter. The ML (the character, not the actor) was a disappointment - weak, insensitive, and clueless. Someone taking up that much of my viewing time needs some zip on his fast ball. The women who were the initial objects of Tang Qi's romantic feelings weren't believable and their antics were tiresome. Not an engaging plot, although I liked the alpaca and the bronze statue-they were fun. The second leads were both good, especially the FL's best friend. The idea of the magical-bracelet was clever and deserved a better treatment than it got in this series. Six generous stars.
With 16 million fans, Tan should not be in this situation. But the ratings of the three dramas after "Longing for Love" are all over 7 points, which shows that most Tan fans are not interested in the image he plays. "Sifangguan" is quite fresh because of the contrast, but the next two dramas are still weak scholars, so they are not very interested. This shows that most Tan fans really love Xiangliu, not Tan Jianci. Secondly, the filter was not promoted in advance, unlike the next drama which was promoted very early, and the audience's appetite was very satisfied, while the filter was like a temporary idea, which combined into this powerless and embarrassing situation.
I believe this will be on my list of re-watching dramas for a long time with all the messages delivered!!!!!
The drama stands out for its exploration of themes like self-acceptance, societal perceptions, and the filters through which we view others.
For the act, Tan Jianci delivers a compelling performance as Tang Qi, portraying a character who evolves from being judgmental to deeply introspective. He is being detailed from every small act of his eyes, his movements and emomtion. For Li Landi, she shines as Su Cheng Cheng, bringing warmth and depth to her role as a woman navigating the complexities of identity and love. Through all the collisions with Tang Qi, she matured and exceeded herself and really come and over come scociety prejudge.
"Filter" masterfully balances lighthearted comedy with meaningful life lessons, making it more than just a romantic drama. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, and the supporting cast adds richness to the narrative.
The plot is engaging, the performances is strong, and the messages is thought-provoking. "Filter" kept me laughing, crying, and heart-beating with every moment. You might find the first 2 episodes a bit slow but believe me, you will keep watching till the end 'cause the film gets better and better with every eps.
FYI, it's going to be broadcast on Netflix starting 10th April. Check it out if you haven't gotten anything in your watch list. !!
