Episode 1: great storytelling. I was definitely hooked. Interesting characters and a genuinely intriguing story. It is subtitled, since the cast all speak French, except Lauren Collins, who is the writer. Sadly, that is where it ends.
Episode 2: What happened to the subtitles? 99% of the dialogue is french, and the viewer has zero idea what is happening.
Episode 3: I honestly have nothing to say since I threw in the towel about halfway through Episode 2.
Overrall: what is probably a super interesting story gets lost on translation, rather lack there of. Who are the QA people that let this slip through?

Episode 1 was very well done. It was interesting and engaging and I enjoyed the references to "Mindhunters" which is my favorite Netflix series.
Yes, episode 2 was really frustrating. I thought it was an issue with my Apple TV unit. I tried to turn on and off subtitles, closed the Hulu app and opened again, and downloaded the lates TVIOS. I ended up skipping most of the episode and went to episode 3 which was fine.
Your work was excellent and you deserved better than this. I hope that whichever service was responsible takes ownership and I hope Netflix features it again.
To those who gave a low rating, it was definitely frustrating. Since it's been fixed, and the filmmaker is the one who was most affected, consider relooking at your rating for the series. And, I have no connection to the filmmaker or the production. Just someone who thinks this is a very good documentary.

Please tune in for Episode 2 on Hulu or National Geographic TV, the missing subtitles issue in Episode 2 has been corrected. Obviously, as the filmmaker, I have only strong and favorable reviews for the series, but I am most excited for audiences to engage it, talk about it, and share their thoughts. The series was incredibly hard to make even with the brilliant roadmap that Lauren Collins' The New Yorker article provided for us. The series offers the rare combination of wild, twisted storytelling yarn with misdirects, unreliable narrators, intrigue, audacity and ciphers -- top-notch true crime -- and braids it with an incisive look at how and why we got here with our love and passion for the true crime genre. I think the third axis of storytelling, is that we interrogate both the audience AND ourselves as the filmmakers to question our own role in not just the proliferation of the genre, but in the ways we make it and promote it. Appreciate any and all reviews, comments, and insights. Again, subtitles are fixed!
I'm a fast reader but reading the subtitles on this was actual work. Are you trying to alienate viewers solely for vanity purposes? It honestly makes no sense. Also, why are 75% of your subtitles superimposed over ALL WHITE backdrops? Does NO ONE not see this? Oh. Right. Nevermind.
WATCH FOREIGN FILMS!!!!!!
YELLOW SUBTITLES!!!!!!
Why are we still having this conversation???
I still don't know what this documentary is about because some coked out producer was having a heyday speed cutting between shots that were all actual exposition completely lost by backgrounds muddled in white background.

I've already watched the first episode on Hulu, which had subtitles for everything, so they got me into the story. Now I'm watching the second episode and the majority of the interviews are in French yet there are no English subtitles. I'm interested in the story but more than half of what is being said can only be understood if you speak French. Even when you turn all subtitles on only the English speaking parts are subtitled. What is up with that?! As I sit here starting the third episode I'm extremely hopeful that the subtitles will return as I feel that I missed a huge amount of information already.
