I had the pleasure of discovering Control Room at the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival last week, and it was a stand out film for me. From the very first scene, the film grips you with a constant undercurrent of mystery and tension, keeping you on the edge of your seat until the final moment.
What really stood out were the moments of pure originality and horror - scenes I've genuinely never seen before. One that particularly stuck with me was one character screaming with a microphone emerging from their mouth - a shocking and surreal visual that was both disturbing and fascinating. The visual effects, especially considering the film's modest budget, were remarkably convincing and ambitious. It's clear the filmmakers were unafraid to push creative boundaries, and succeeded in doing so.
The music score also deserves major praise. With slick, modern electric guitar riffs that gave off serious Netflix thriller vibes, the soundtrack elevated the whole experience and added a real sense of style and momentum.
The lead actor was phenomenal, portraying an awkward, struggling musician with charm, depth, and a great sense of humour. His performance brought emotional weight to the story, making the character instantly relatable.
Overall, Control Room is a bold, inventive, and thoroughly impressive film that proves indie film is alive and thriving. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this director - and highly recommend watching this film if you get the chance!
