It's a bit sad that, apart from a few independent productions, film studios have so little to offer in terms of plot.
After about 10 minutes, I felt like I was watching the 1997 classic thriller "The Game" with Michael Douglas, reworked into a strange, grotesque compilation of fight scenes, in which every act is highly mannered. The longer I watched, the more bored I became... Yes, the film is a kind of middle-of-the-road entertainment, but it's neither too funny nor too serious; it's probably the least balanced film of its kind I've seen in recent years. Good for a get-together with a beer and the TV humming in the background.
It's a bit like the mush that generative AI would produce.

Of course I needed no persuasion to sit down and watch the 2025 action comedy "Hostile Takeover". Why? Well, first of all, it was a movie that I hadn't already seen, and thus it needed to be given a fair chance. Secondly, with Michael Jai White in the lead, of course chances were that it would be an enjoyable movie.
Writers Michael Hamilton-Wright, Christina Laughlin and Burton L. Warner put together an enjoyable and entertaining script. It was a narrative that managed to combine storytelling with action and just the right amount of lighthearted comedy banter.
Aside from leading actor Michael Jai White, then I was only familiar with Aimee Stolte and Aleks Paunovic. The acting performances in the movie were good.
There is a good amount of nicely choreographed and executed fight scenes throughout the course of the movie, which definitely helps add to the overall enjoyment of the movie.
If you enjoy action movies where there is a pinch of comedy to it, then "Hostile Takeover" certainly is worth checking out.
My rating of director Michael Hamilton-Wright's 2025 movie "Hostile Takeover" lands on a six out of ten stars.

I am a huge MJW fan, seen quite a few of his flicks but this one was, how you say,,,,bad. The plot was stupid, the endless fighting was stupid, the witty banter was stupid. Nothing like his previous films. The Workaholics Anonymous angle was stupid. The ending just bad. I've got nothing against some hand to hand fighting but when he was fighting for his life for about 10 minutes, literally, he looked and acted like nothing at all happened.

This isnt one of Michael Jai wights movies that follows the normal format for an action moive. This is pseudo comedy light hearted look at a hitman who loves his job but comes across some problems because of his decision to join a self help group. I don't want to give away the plot so thats as far as I will go with reveals.
I think the move suffers from this approach because it restricts itself in not maximising the comedy aspect. Some of the nuances that are employed... say with Wights character, and the curious relationships he has with other characters, just don't really work in the manner they are trying to portray. There are some amusing moments sure, but no laugh-out-loud or even chuckle moments to really appreciate.
White really gives his all here. You can see he's putting eveyrthing into rendering this character, but it's sort of a waste really. I just didn't feel the mood the movie was going for. To be honest it was barely watchable, not because it was done necessarily badly, though that's not to say it was particularly interesting or entertaining, but becasue it was flat and rather boring.
The fight scenes were almost a slow-mo version or what were used to seeing with White. I get the impression this was done deliberately, again, as variation of the normally fast moving electric coreography were used to, and I think this was to offset the style of the movie, but again, it doesn't really work.
I laboured through it but mostly it falls flat, and doesn't deliver. If your a Wight fan, as I am, you sould probably watch it anyway, so judge for yourself.
I didn't like it and can only manage a 3/10.

Honestly, this felt like a waste of time. Not terrible enough to be entertaining in a "so bad it's good" way, but not good in any area either. It just sits in that boring middle ground. All the characters are one-dimensional, like they walked straight out of a generic superhero cartoon, and the plot is about as deep as a puddle.
The story? A guy is suspected of betraying his master... for no real reason. There's nothing clever or layered about it - just a lazy setup that never goes anywhere interesting. The tone tries to mix humor with action, but the jokes never land, and any attempts to develop the main character fall completely flat.
Visually, it's as generic as any low-effort action movie. The fight scenes mostly involve people who clearly don't know how to fight - except for Michael Jai White, who actually can, but for some reason tones himself down to match the rest of the cast. The blood effects are laughably bad, and the cinematography is forgettable.
The music? Fine. Just background filler - nothing memorable. My "favorite" scene (if I had to pick one) was the fight in his ex-apartment, but even that was painfully mediocre. The worst part was simply the time I wasted watching it.
Final verdict: I'd honestly recommend watching paint dry instead - at least then you won't be disappointed.

Sure it isn't a big Hollywood movie, but then that's exactly why it's actually funny, with far, FAR better crafted fight choreography. There are a couple questionable spots, but since the action coming out of Hollywood is generally blends together into one long groan, they're pretty easy to get over.
It seems like there's an 80's action movie homage influencing the movie. The constant joking is a little over the top, but oh well, still funny.
I've always been a Michael Jai White fan since Spawn and Universal Soldier 2. He's actually a talented and humble (relatively) martial artist a who never fails to produce a good performance. His comedic timing apparently isn't bad either.
I was actually very disheartened when it looked like Mikey was going the way of Steven Seagal, getting to fat to lift his legs and kick properly, but then I realized it was entirely because he was wearing modern style tapered super tight jeans. No one can kick in those. He must have known and was doing it to illustrate how stupid and dangerous it is to wear jeans like that. A+

Michael J. White leads as Pete a top of his class "fixer" (hitman) who has been tagged by someone into being a snitch to his boss Matteo Acardo (John Littlefield) but things are not as they seem, A lot of tally points are compared as to who is the badass hitman in town as a very interesting group of hitmen and women all attempt to bring him in to his boss for questioning. The reward for his capture however is rather low considering his value which sets the stage for the twist. Good action, fights, a bit of gore, no nudity or questionable garbage, sme foul language but not over the top. Michael is a bit heavier (gained some weight) in this one and not as trim as in "Blood and Bone" (2009) but that was a few years ago. Still great and a good watch!. Enjoy!

Fun movie with great action. This is a cool film format. Great way t9 make large scale films cost effectively. I lived Michael's acting diversity and ability to show a friendlier side. The action was amazing with incredible stunt work! There is a fight scene with some bat work that was mind blowing.

Nice. Hollywood made a funny action movie for once. This was a decent movie for a change. Great action, actually made me laugh. Hopefully they will make a sequel to this. I cant think of the black actors name as I type this, but he is fun to watch. This movie just needed a few hot chicks and some nudity and it wouldve been a ten.

The plot was extravagant but nice , the fight choreography was good , the script was ok , I can only relate to the only take on the movie which everybody feels but don't know how to explain . It's "cinematography" .
For cinematography they choose action camera through out the movie which is constantly zoomed in on characters faces and blurring everything else around them .
It is quite strange to adopt this trend in a movie like that partly because it didn't have a small budget , they did shoot at multiple exotic locations so they didn't need to blur the entire movie , on the other hand the cast in general appeared overaged as you could count every head line and every wrinkle and pore on all their faces (I hope this doesn't ruin Aimee Stolte's career since she put up some good fight scenes to be sent off to grandmas category by producers because of this) , not only that , much of the fight scenes you can only see elbows and arms around necks and lose track of what's happening easily .
I really hope for a sequel but just film it right this time , the characters of the plot are all worthy of looking into , most had strong appearance but hardly any character development which I hope could be taken care of in a sequel .

Professional killer Pete (Michael Jai White) gets accused of being a rat. Everybody starts coming after him. He gets help from Mora (Aimee Stolte). The action is ok. I expected better. This tries to be funny and that's probably my biggest issue. It's always bad when people are trying to be funny and they're not. This is definitely not.

Too many other reviewers were expecting too much. This a purposefully campy movie with good, witty dialog, and good acting. Smiled throughout the movie, enjoyed the fight scenes, and even had a few laugh out loud moments. Reminds me of a Guy Ritchie movie. Definitely not a 10 but definitely an 8+. Worth the time and money.

A mess of a movie. Wants to be a comedy / action, but unfortunately, it's a stew.
It's just not put together well. The characters are exaggerated. Dialogs drag for too long, struggling to be witty and funny. It's neither of those.
Instead of watching this one, try Undisputed 2, Universal Soldier 2, Blood And Bone. Thank me later!

This is a mostly unoriginal plot with John wick style action minus the gunfire. The fight and combat scenes are for the most part realistic and not absurd. The production quality is good which will remind you that this is a professionally made film. Overall the characters and the plot have some comic relief, it's fun and uncomplicated. Don't expect too much from it but if you're looking for a fun action movie this might be it.

This movie - if you can call it that - is really a challenging puzzle of determining what's worse, the writing, acting or directing? One bad cliche after another far off the mark of humor. All seem to exist only to show unrealistic MMA style fight scenes. And the sets and music choices - cringe again without humor.
The premise of an assassin attending workaholics anonymous meetings seems so promising, you keep watching waiting for something, and it's all really a big nothing.
