Secret Life of the Pastor's Wife

This Lifetime movie was one of the better ones this year, so far. Quite the thriller with a good, fast-moving script and a strong ensemble cast. Pastor Jim and Angie Martin run a local church. They have a lovely teen, and a beautiful home with a pool! Sounds perfect, right? Except Angie finds out that Jason, the dude who she hires to clean the pool is hot and her marriage has been ice cold. Jim treats her like a trophy wife but their marriage is a sham. She is lonely for affection and has a one-night stand with the pool boy. Realizing later on that she made a regrettable mistake, Angie tries to break it off with Jason but he wants to keep seeing her despite her being married. Unexpected plot twists and quite a few interesting characters thrown into the mix produce a great story! DEFINITELY recommended and highly entertaining!

Even for a Lifetime release, this was a cliched, stereotypical, tick-the-boxes type of made-for-TV movie that starts off with the ignored wife of a pastor having an affair with the new pool boy. (Expecting the Cliche Police at any moment).

It turns out that she isn't the only one who has had a dalliance with the pool boy. Pretty soon, there are letters circulating the neighbourhood, and then dead bodies start piling up.

There's a certain claustrophobic quality to the movie as the pastor's wife, Angie, sets about unravelling the mystery of the murders. Acting is okay. If nothing else, the creepy characters are suitably creepy. No Academy Award-winning stuff here, but Lifetime has released films with much worse acting than this.

I wasn't expecting much from "Secret life of the Pastor's Wife" but even so, it was an entertaining, if obscenely trashy, way of passing ninety of so minutes.

I hate to admit it, but some of these Lifetime movies are compelling.

I can't believe I watched a Lifetime Movie simply because the actor playing the pastor caught my attention. I think he's hot and he should have had at least one nude scene. Watching him made me eat too much chocolate and chocolate is always a poor substitute for raw, unbridled lust. His wife seemed too mousey and bland to do anything extramarital but as with most Lifetime movies, it's usually easy to predict the plot. It would have been a much more enjoyable movie if the pastor and the pool boy had had the affair! Lifetime pastors are always up to no good which is often the case with real-life pastors too, but they're rarely as tasty-looking as the pastor in this movie. I might even get out my box of See's Chocolates and watch this one again.
