Project UFO is set in 1980s communist Poland, where competing media personalities are on a quest to find evidence proving the existence of aliens. Interest spikes when stories about a possible "Polish Roswell" begin to circulate, and the growing body of evidence suggests the event might actually be real. But under a communist regime, nothing is that simple-various individuals within the system have their own interests and motivations to get involved.
This mini-series, with four episodes in its first season-and no confirmation of a second season-features a cast of unique and quirky characters. We follow a handful of people from the village where the UFO sightings originated, as well as government officials and media figures, all of whom operate under the influence of state interests. Much of the series revolves around relationships, secrets, and the ongoing effort to uncover the truth behind the incident.
I thought the acting was solid across the board. Since this is a Polish show with voice-over dubbing, I can't fully evaluate the original performances, but everything looked convincing to me. The cast included plenty of small gestures and subtle moments that, while not essential to the plot, showed a real commitment to quality. There were even a few characters that felt straight out of The X-Files. I also appreciated how the series constantly keeps you guessing about whether the UFO incident was real or not.

Nicely filmed, avant-garde, Polish cinema even upon humoured project, they've managed to keep the standard and not dipping their toes into cheap picture.
Talents are nicely selected, scenography meticulously arranged.
Truth be told, great binge for Sunday chill.
Specific sub story, with the taste of true cinema, to create something humorous and entertaining, taking a Mickey out of communist party, Polish people fighting to be seen and heard. It's showing greatly oppressed society and yet holding their faith and keeping up with their dreams within the barbed wire of communism and Russian waiting at the border.

Like your Sci-Fi retro, with a light humour and quirky? You won't go far wrong with Projekt UFO on Netflix. Polish production, set during political upheaval in that country, a fading tv star and a UFO enthusiast haunted by his brother's disappearance, investigate Poland's Roswell. Beautifully shot and designed, with a great colour palette which somehow emphasises the bleakness of the times.
There's subtle nods to other shows and films about alien visitors, it even has it's own Smoking Man (with his own idiosyncrasy), but location and time it's set really make it original. I'm sure some will watch and want an English language remake, I thought myself that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost would cover the male lead roles, but a remake would be a mistake, missing out on the uniqueness of the Polish setting.
Great 80s style electronic synth soundtrack too.

Show is very entertaining. If you're into period pieces it definitely is something different for us in the United States. The title is a bit misleading but not untrue. The show does revolve around chasing leads for a story about "Polands Roswell" but that's just the surface plot. There is way more going on. The set pieces, the music, and the atmosphere are really good. It is also not a "laugh out loud" comedy, although it does have a lot of dark and quirky humor. Don't listen to the braindead reviews for from people complaining about lack of aliens or comparing it to Stranger Things. I don't think they even watched the show. One admitted they didn't.
Great mini-series, nicely filmed with a good cast and some fantastic quirky characters.
If you're looking for some proper Sci-Fi, then this is probably not for you.
It is a slightly bizarre but humorous and visually excellent story set in 80's Poland - Great sets and great sound track with a retro-indie feel to it.
Anyone who gave this a bad review has totally missed the point. This is a charming Fargo-esque tale set in rural Poland. I don't speak Polish, so had to rely on the sub-titles but I could sense that the dialogue was often a little bit tongue-in-cheek and this just added to it's charm for me.
Well worth a watch!
