Let's get one thing straight: when I heard about a romantic comedy called Rhino King, I expected either a cartoon for toddlers or a wildlife documentary gone rogue. What I did not expect was one of the weirdest, funniest, and strangely touching rom coms of the year.

Rhino King is the story of James, a struggling house husband who can't find a job, and turns to stripping to help pay bills.

This movie leans hard into the absurd and owns it. The rom com formula is all here, emotional misunderstandings, grand gestures but it's delivered with so much self-awareness and charm that you can't help but root for it. There's a scene where James is being taught the Thunder clap and it's just joyful.

The chemistry between the leads is surprisingly electric. Brandon Dunlap, Jason Park and Christopher Deon do a stellar job bringing the laughs and the funny on full display.

But amid the ridiculousness, Rhino King somehow manages to hit you with a few real emotions too. It's about embracing your weird, loving without conditions, and finding beauty in the most unexpected places (like a grocery store parking lot.).

Is it a little over-the-top? Absolutely.

Is it for everyone? Probably not.

But is it the most fun you'll have watching a man fall in love.

Rhino King is a rom com that charges straight at your heart and honestly, I never saw it coming.
